I haven't cut my hair in 1 year...

so I have an appointment next friday with a Deva trained dry cut stylist...

I'm so nervous, are there any specific terminology that us used for a Deva cut that I should know about? Anything that you who have/had Deva cuts could pass on that would be useful?

Oh, I am going to take my own styling products as I'm pretty sure that moisture and oil heavy products will not do well on my hair, I don't see that Curl Ambassador carries the products I use.

I can't help you at all, but i wanted to wish you good luck! I know several people on here say they take their own products. I've heard sometimes you have to insist on them using them, because they'll want to use their own.

I'm wanting to get a deva cut myself, eventually. (Once I have they money to spend on it)

Please post your before and afters! Good luck!!

If they want to give me free samples tho, I'll take them and try them.

I go tonight for a cut.

Just do your discussing and clarifying BEFORE they begin. Being disappointed after someone takes a razor to your hair, as an example, is the wrong time to communicate that you did not want a razor used.

I take all my stuff and they are happy to use it. It is sort of expected now. No issue with them wanting to use theirs.

Clarify that you expect a dry cut, ask that she/he go what what she/he will be doing, let them know that you are nervous. Just be open, be clear about what you want and be honest if asked questions.

It is likely that I am odd, but even with straight hair for 45 years, I never sat in a chair and told them to do what they wanted. I always had ideas or a plan for what I wanted them to do.

You will do great!

I go to a salon that is a regular salon (non-Deva) and my stylist happens to be Deva trained. Haircuts by stylists at her experience level cost the same if my hair is straight or she is cutting Deva style.

I'm going to Curl Ambassabors here in town, reviewed here on the boards. They seem to specialize in Deva dry cuts and they always include a detailed consultation first and what they call a "curlmap" or something like that so you know what do and how to recreate your curls at home that they do in the salon.

Check out Gretchen, our lovely moderators avatar, that will be the jumping off point. I'm going from a medium-long grown out angled bob to something between jaw and shoulder length...I like the idea of having bouncing little ringlets like that, if the stylist thinks my hair will co-operate that is.

I just realized I need to know if I should go with my hair "naked" and unstyled- let them see it frizzy and undefined and stretched out from being clipped. Or should I do my usual routine next week which would mean by Friday, I would be on day 3 hair which I usually clip up after misting with water in the morning?

Or should I go in with freshly washed and styled hair so they can see how my hair is on day 1 with my products in it?

I lowpooed and applied fresh products yesterday. Today, I misted, added a touch more product and diffused. Since they are going to cleanse tonight I did not want to do/go through the whole process twice in one day.

Sounds like a great place with the consultation and all. Cannot wait to see pics!!!

Maybe I'll go in with day 2 hair then so they have some idea of how my hair looks generally...are you posting pics of your before and after too?

I'm having a friend go with me for moral support so I'll ask her to take pics with her phone...

so, I got a curly bob last Friday, and am pretty happy with it. The Deva trained stylist layered it well so it looks pretty good. I haven't had this short hair for over a year so I forgot that it's much harder to get beyond day 1 hair. I've only managed to get two days of good hair, then I have to re-wash and style the 3rd day. I guess I got spoiled with my long hair which was so easy to throw in a clip on day 4 or so.

When I can get decent pics of the new 'do, I'll post the before and after. I have to say how surprised I am at how much curlier my hair is. I think it could be classified as pretty much 3B now. It's very bouncy and the curl definition is really good.

I've gotten between 10-15 compliments this morning from coworkers and everyone's amazed my curls are natural vs a perm. Got some nice expressions of admiring envy...I could get used to compliments.

I'm looking forward to the pictures! I'm glad you got a great cut and are happy with it.
