my version of plopping
So curlies, wanted to share how I plop, when I do it. I typically don't have a lot of time to "mess" with that, so I haven't been doing it much lately. But when I do, I get GREAT results!
Plopping with a mf towel or even a t-shirt has given me decent results before, but I always had a few problems here and there. Something would get kinked or folded wrong, the hair along my hairline would be funky because of the fabric, etc.
So I got the idea to plop with a triangle net - the kind you use to hold rollers in place - and POOF! Great curls! My hair tends to hold a lot of water, so if I plop, it just NEVER dries, so the net allows drying to continue while I plop!
If anyone tries it, let me know how it works for you!!

Thanks for putting up the link, KP!
It's the type of net they used to use to hold rollers in place. Sally's sells them! I got an extra large one, because my hair is thick and long.

This is freaking awesome. I'm running to Sally's on my lunch break today!

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.
No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.

These things are huge. I think I just might be able to use them as a shawl. Took me forever to find because at my Sally's they weren't in a package, just a bin. Just about had a heart attack.

LOL! Well, at least you found it! I'm glad they are that big! Helps to have enough to contain all my hair (it's long and fairly thick), and still have some to work with to tie it/pin it in place!
Let me know how it works for you!

So do you wrap a MF towel or flour sack around the net plop or just use the net? Seems just the net wouldn't absorb the water. Heading to Sally's tomorrow for BRHG and will cehck it out.

Well,I scrunch it first. My hair would be just like I was going to let it air dry on its own, except I put the net on to "plop" the curls. When I plop with a towel, the ends (and whatever touches the towel) get dry, but everything else stays really wet. Also, some people plop with a t-shirt, which I can't imagine absorbing too much water.
My hair is really long, thick, and holds water for a log time. The net isn't quite as tight as a towel, so no curls get kinked or squished, and it allows air to keep drying my hair.
I'm sure this won't work for everyone, but hopefully it helps some people! And if it doesn't, you're only out $2 on the hair net!

And if it's plopped in the netting, you could use a hood dryer or even your diffuser to get the drying process started. Or blot with a flour sack towel while it's plopped in the netting.

When I bought the satin scarf I thought about that net at Sally's but didn't know how it would go. I'd have been better off with the net! That dayum scarf slides all over the place. I finally tossed it and now I'm on the hunt for a replacement but that net... I may have to get it tomorrow!

Haha! Well, hopefully if you do it works! But like I said, even if not, at least you're only out $2!

Anybody tried this? Did you get good results? I find it's helped a lot with curl retention! I just wish I had more time to do this more often!

Just trying this today- my hair isn't completely dry yet, but I do notice more shrinkage and curl definition. I did need to diffuse while plopping and after plopping, only because I already have a nasty sore throat and head cold and didn't want to walk outside with really wet hair (especially since I'm on my way to choir before I see my parents for Thanksgiving). If I can get some decent pics after I'm totally dry I'll post later.
