secret of great hair day-is it product or process?

I am finding it is a combination. i had a fabulous hair day on Wed 1/10. Tues nite i washed with suave naturals, rinsed out, put in more suave with about 1 tsp honey, rinsed out. put in devacare one C for leavein. then put B&A gel. i plopped 1/2 hr or so and then air dried. still slightly damp at bedtime, then put it in microfiber turban, I woke up with dry hair, very bouncy curls and my hair felt great. Today i used same product combo but plopped overnight with wetter hair. woke up and hair was still damp and dried a bit crunchy. go figure!!! i put the good hair day pics on fotki jan 10. so what are your secrets for great hair days? any way to be more sure of having a good one than coincidence allows?

I think it is about both too. If you use the wrong technique/process no good hair products can save you I think, but if you use the right one AND the right products it looks better than with the wrong products.
I think it's a roll of the dice by the hair gods whether we have a good or bad hair day.

Kidding aside, I think the weather plays a big part in how my hair behaves, and neither product nor process is going to change the weather.

3A hair; coloring with henna/indigo since July 2009; normally follow the CG method. Still searching for my HG products!

I bet the first night you slept on it dryer, you probably moved around and scrunched the crunch out.
If I put too much or too little gel in my hair day is funky.

It's def part product part technique and part weather.
I'll say this though, I have a combo that works for me, if I vary one of the products my hair day is pretty much shot. I don't look like I have a birds nest but either my curls are too stiff, or too limp, or too greasy.

Man the pics of the good day are so good! You have all that volume on top and your curls are tighter and your hair is all shiny!

ETA: I forgot to say how I make sure I get the same results from day to day.
Part of it is doing the same exact thing daily, it just gets to be a habit. I use the same conditioner, bend over to rinse it, stay bent, apply the same leave in I do every day, then rake it through, scrunch. I can always tell if my hair is wet enough for my gel now. Super light hold gels need less water, just enough to encourage good clumping. Strong gels need more water. Usually I have to spray m ore water on my underneath, which is the top at this moment because I'm still bend over. I try and use the same gels always and the same drying technique which is to scruch with paper towels. Apply a tiny bit more product and then start my diffusing upside down. flip upright and lean head side to side and diffused until gel is still then air dry and scrunch out the crunch when 90% dry.

If it smells good put it in your hair, if it tastes good spit it out!
It must be the techniques. I've been using ONLY AHC (daily), and mop c system hydrating shampoo (weekly) since September. Sometimes I have a great hair day, and sometimes my hair looks terrible. I have kept my techniques mostly the same, so I think it is a combo of the weather and the little things I do to my hair like plopping for an extra 5 minutes or using a little less conditioner that must make the difference,

I know this sounds a little out there-but my hair seems to follow my mood and my lifestyle...If I am feeling overly tired, my hair looks tired, if I skip working out and eat too much junkfood-my hair suffers with the rest of my body. I realize weather, products, and routine have something to do with it too, but i think more than anything, how I take care of myself is the biggest factor.

The second biggest factor for me is product combinations-I always get best results putting products on almost dripping wet hair, use a curl enhancer w/ moisture, and then a gel, then diffuse. (And I never diffuse more than 2-3x/wk-I just re-activate curls w/ water and use curl refresher on the non-washing days). I've gotton mostly consistant results, and it is a simple routine. The amount of each product I use and the amount I dry it all depend on what my hair is telling me and what season it is.

I think its both but ultimately if you use the right products you could still have a bad hair day if your technique is wrong. I have a product routine that works wonders for me, and one day I did it and my hair came out looking 'meh'. I then did the routine the same the next time I washed and my hair was fabulous!

I realised the reason: when blowdrying, pixiecurl method, on cold (both times) the first time I was holdling the dryer to my head for about 30 seconds then changing it, and doing that the whole time. The second time I held the drier on one spot for about 2 minutes, and then did that the whole time. That was the ONLY thing different in my routine so blowdrying on the same spot for longer gives me bouncier, tighter curls Also length of plopping time can alter curls, type of tshirt I use (big or small, small ones make my curls tighter on my head so the curls come out bouncier again).

cleanse: OS shampoo. PureNuffStuff cleanser.
condition: Aussie 3MM. Jessicurl Aloeba.
style: B2Basics GreenTeaGel. T&G Curl Balm. JCarter Nourish&Shine.

I'd be lying if I said I had it all figured out:-), but I do have some techniques that seem to be working. For example, when it's dry and cold I leave a bit more conditioner in; when it's humid, I use a couple of drops of oil to smooth my canopy; when it's windy, a *lot* more gel.

Right now I'm experimenting with baby shampoo and leaving in more conditioner. I hate to say it, but it's working better than HCC, which seemed to be weighing my hair down too much. We'll see if it keeps up!
Couple of inches past shoulder length 3A. Shampoo every 3rd or 4th day w/ baby shampoo; Tigi Fashionista conditioner; back to Condition 3-in-1 mousse . Alternate days water rinse, conditioner and mousse.
For me it's the amount of time I let airdry before diffusing. If I let dry to much, it's not as curly. If I don't let airdry enough it get a little frizzy.
