Hmm.. well, you might experiment to see if it's a protein thing. Too much protein can make some people's hair feel dry.
As far as moisture goes - I have had a lot of luck lately with using Shea Moisture conditioner. I wash or co-wash, use a rinse out, and then I put a small amount of SM condish mixed with some AVG. It makes my hair really soft and moistured, and using a tiny bit (dime sized at most mixed with the AVG, and my hair is long and thick), it keeps my hair from getting weighed down, but also keeps it very soft and moistured. I use that combo before I put on gel, btw.
