Curly Girl Method Drugstore Products

Sooooooo....... Here we go

I am starting the CG method next week. I have Conditioners that are CG approved , and I need a leave-in and a mousse or gel. Just wanted to know if there are any that you know of in stores like Target. I Really need a hard hold cause my hair is super thick and curly! Please comment with suggestions ASAP because I am goin shopping in 2 hours. Thanks

You should do a search (in the right hand corner of the screen) for drugstore products...There have been a lot of threads on this recently...You will probably be able to get a lot of recommendations.

Off the top of my head people seem to like Herbal Essences and Aussie mousses and gels, LA Looks gels, Yes to Carrots/Cucumbers conditioners, Organix shampoos.
2b/3a, normal/high porosity, fine/medium texture, medium density, low elasticity

Low Poo- Tigi Colour Goddess, Giovanni 50:50, Giovanni TTT (clarify 1X/week)
Condish- CJ Curl Rehab, Giovanni 50:50, Giovanni TTT
Leave In- Slip Detangler, KCKT, Redken Curl Refiner
Style- KCCC, SS CEJ, SS FHG
Treatment- CJ Repair Me! and CJ CR

Dislikes: Too much protein, high glycerin content, and heavy oils
I second the Herbal Essences gels. I'm currently using Tousle Me Softly. I also like Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition for a leave-in and L'Oreal Out of Bed for second day hair (Lube the LOOB!).
Those brands all have cg products. You can check labels to be sure.

I can recommend the SheaMoisture line, too. Lots of people use Kinky Curly stuff. Both are available a target, and SM is also at Walgreens.

Organic shampoos are cg, but conishes are not. Suave naturals, condishes are but shampoos are not.

You just want to be sure there are no sulfates in the poos (if you are going low poo), no cones unless they are water soluble in poos or condishes. (water sol cones will say peg or ppg in front of the cone).

Good luck! It's an adventure, for sure!

I recently tried Monkey Brains gel and I must say that I really like it. It had different holds, but I tried the Super Sticky Hair Gel and it was pretty hard holding. Not like "oh my gosh, I can't scrunch out the crunch" hard holding, but like "my curls actually held all day and even into day 3!" hard holding. I did refresh and diffuse every morning and added a smidge to the underside because I apparently didn't get any or enough there the first go-round, but yeah...it's pretty rockin'. It does have harder holding gels called hair glue. The gel was like a 10++ hold and the hair glue (the one I bought) is supposed to be a 12 hold on a scale of 1-10.

As far as I know, they're completely CG. The ingredients are minimal. It's a little startling when the gel comes out because it's like day-glo yellow and it kinda sucks because it smells like bananas, but the smell went away (at least for me) as soon as I had diffused.

This area is under construction as my hair type changed and nothing works well for me. I shampoo, I condition and pretty much have done nothing but chuck my hair in a messy bun for the past oh...year? Yeah, I'm that lazy.

No...going no-poo or CG does not work for me. It leaves me overconditioned and oily in a second no matter what I use, so that's not what's not working.
