Default Comb w/ a wide tooth daily? Essence mag article

I recently started finger detangling when washing & it works for me. Then I follow up with about five strokes per section with a wide tooth comb.

I read just now on pg 40 in the latest issue of essence that 1 should detangle daily? Doesn't this screw up curl patterns? Especially when transitioning and the demarcation line is so fragile?

I think sometimes multiple stylists should be consulted before assuming that one way is the right way to deal with textured hair.

Anyone read this article yet? What are your thoughts?

Bumping! I'd like to know too. Can you use a wide toothed comb everyday on your hair to detangle? If yes, is it preferable on dry hair or wet hair?

Apparently youtube vloggers are offended by the article attempting to discredit them. The creativelady and a few others have begun sounding off in response to this.

My hair tangles very easily and I find if I don't detangle when wet my tangles become a problem when my hair dries. I like to put my hair up in a ponytail while damp if that's how I want to wear it the next day, but I run into damaged hair in the long run. I'm making it a priority to detangle with a wide-toothed pick after every washing then dry my hair completely before pulling it back (on days I want to wear it back). I would think a wide-toothed pick would be preferable to a wide-toothed comb for most hair types.

The only time I use a wide tooth comb is when my hair is loaded with conditioner. It's too stressful for me to attempt to comb my hair every day or when it's dry. Between washings if I dampen my hair I'd finger comb it.

I'm a stylist. Honestly it's whatever works for you. If you do detangle daily though I recommend the same, only in the shower with dripping hair covered in condish. If finger detangling works (it does for me too) then continue to do that.

Opinions are vast and varied, and I think it's up to each individual to determine what works for them.

The bolded is all that matters. As far as I'm concerned, there was some shoddy advice in that article.

For me, combing everyday would be disastrous.

I detangle in the shower, so it isn't daily. I think that daily would be overkill for me.

I use a bunch of conditioner and my fingers to do the bulk of the detangling. Then I follow through with a wide tooth comb.

There's a thread on 4a talking about the article.

I run a wide tooth comb through my hair when it is soaking wet and has conditioner in it. I do this almost daily. But I don't really have tangles; it is more of a routine than anything else! Only time I am really tangly is if I skip a day of showering and it is windy outside. Then my hair is a rat's nest!
