Can this cause hair fallout?

I notice I'm losing more hair than normal. In the tub I'd have a small mass of hair of about 10-20 strands after taking a bath and I noticed more hair on my combs and on the sink. I thought it was from doing henna more frequently as I coat it on my scalp to help with dry scalp. I use deep conditioner with it to help with distribution which causes heaviness. So I stopped doing this as much and noticed less fall-out.

I recently used my usual deep conditioner with a bit of honey and a Hollywood Beauty Olive Oil. I havent' used the Olive Oil in a long time and I think I went a little heavy on it. Even after shampooing I had it in my hair. When I went to dry my hair I ran my hand through it and lost some hairs on my hand plus a piece of hair (about 5 strands) was loose and came out. Could this be from the oil coating my hair? Last night when I washed my hair, I didn't lose much hair but noticed my scalp was tender and my hair feels different lately It's hard to explain, like it's changing texture. Do you think this is a result of the oil or more a health condition? I'm being tested for a type of hypothyroidism that causes hypothyroid symptoms even tho I take thyroid medicine. Hair loss is a hypo symptom though not one I've ever experienced. I've had some other hypo symptoms recently as well which is why I think it could related.

Has anyone had this hair issue and is it the cause of hair products or something more? It's not an alarming loss of hair but it's something I hope I can pinpoint and get rid of.

Thank you, but I don't think this is an issue of thinning hair as in normal thinning with age or time because I think that's more gradual. This is more sudden and it's more sporadic loss. Though I will check it out.

Are you waiting longer between washes or have you just stared wearing your hair curly? Both will result in loose hairs staying in your hair, as they don't just fall out during the day like with people with straight hair. Then, when you wash, all the hairs come out at once.

It is normal to lose 50-150 hairs a day (can vary)...I know every time I wash and detangle (almost daily) I havea huge hunk of hair in the drain.

I did go through a time when I lost more hair than normal and was starting to see bald spots but there was a medical reason. Once I got past that, my hair started to grow back in. But I still lose a lot in the shower.

If you can't figure out why this is happening I would go see a doctor about it.

Maybe that is it, I haven't been washing my hair quite as often lately.

My thyroid tests came back normal so it is nothing with that.

I'll see how it goes. Thanks!

If you figure you are washing every second or third day, you have about 1-3 day's worth of shedding that will come out in each wash, which could be a large amount of hair (could be a couple hundred!)

If you have noticed any thinning or bald spots, call your doctor. If everything else seems normal, it probably is just shedding. But if you are not sure, checking with your doctor won't hurt.

I lose a lot of hair too. Ever since I stopped brushing it way back when, it seems like the only time it really comes out is in the shower. I can rake my fingers through and have a bunch. If you don't notice any thinning I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Sorry that I can't give you a really concise answer, but with some products my hair sheds like crazy too. Especially when I have lots of build up. Back when I used to use bumble and bumble I was shedding like crazy, no visible thinning though. Devacurl also made me shed. I suspected some type of specific protein sensitivity but I could be wrong, although I stopped using them and now I dont shed at all. Actually looking back I think they both contain hops....hmmm.... Anyways, check the ingredients lists on your products. You could have a protein sensitivity, even if your hair loves other proteins (mine certainly does).

I haven't been losing much hair at all in the past few times I've shampooed. I think it was more product usage than anything. My hair/scalp usually isn't sensitive. I used Mane n' Tail for a couple of weeks and that's really when I noticed fall out. I didn't like how it made my hair feel either, coated. Same with the oil I mentioned. I'm not doing henna as much either. So... must've been a combo of these things.

My thyroid labs came out normal... I think. There was only 1 test shown on my lab results which was normal and "Normal" was written underneath. Its weird b/c the other test, for thyroid anti-bodies, isn't listed. I know it was put into the computer b/c the tech asked me twice if I was sure the code was TPO (my doctor's handwriting). I only knew this b/c I looked up the code online before taking the test! That worried me but I saw him put it in there. I'll feel dumb calling to double-check but that kind of hypothyroidism causes symptoms like hair loss and insomnia even when I'm taking my medicine. I've felt hypothyroid lately, as in before I was dx'ed - like crap. It's prolly OK but at least I think I'd have it typed out. I like to have a record of tests I take.

Anyhow thanks. Hope I got it licked!
