Default i need some help with my hair, any advice?

hello everyone, im new here! . iv actually been stalking this site for quite some time now. i originaliy found this website by googleing ''curly hair care'' and lo and behold, this site was one of the first links to show up! i think this site is totally awesome by the way. i spent years dying for straight hair, and it was only untill about 2 years ago that i started accepting my hair for it's naturally curly texture. and checking out this website has helped a lot too. it's helped me learn that curly hair can be cute and sexy just like straight hair .

ok, now for hair troubles. my main problem with my hair is that it is that it's practically dead. this was caused by years of daily washing, sometimes twice a day. the reason why i would wash my hair so much is because i would hate the feeling of sweat and grime and getting caught in my thick mass of hair.iv
been co washing for about 4 months now, only shampooing about twice a week. but my hair still hasn't shown any improvement! i haft to co wash my hair everyday or else my hair will look frizzy and damaged.

this is what i do with my hair everyday to keep my curls looking ''OK''

my routine for the morning:

1.while in the shower, i rub vo5 conditioner into my scalp and hair, lightly scrubbing it in. then i leave the conditioner on for the remainder of shower, i rinse it off when im done.

2. wrap a towel around my head for 15 minutes(i don't try to towel dry it)

3. i remove the towel, brush out my hair, then i apply the same vo5 conditioner i co wash with as a leave in conditioner. next i add either a little bit of body lotion(it's actually a great defrizzer) or about two pumps of john Freida's frizz ease.

4.i pull my semi damp hair back into a pony tail(i almost never leave my hair down)

my night time routine is basically the same as my morning routine, only i don't add any de frizzers

another problem i have with my hair is that im not really sure what category it goes into. i don't weather im kinky-curly, 3cb curls, or both! this is also a little frustrating to me.

can anyone give me advice?

The biggest change I would suggest is getting rid of the Frizz Ease- it's full of cones and if you're only co-washing, the cones will continue to build up in your hair and cause all sorts of problems. I inadvertently did the same thing for about a year before I found this site. I had started using Deva Curl products but was still adding in a shine product with cones and after a while I hated how my hair was looking.

I can relate to hair getting sweaty and dirty and gross- I do martial arts and train almost every day for 1-2 hours. I found that I can co-wash for a couple days but then I use a sulfate-free shampoo about twice a week. Some of us just can't do second day hair.

As far as curl type, many of us have a combination of curl types on our head. But the more important traits to figure out are your hair's texture and porosity, because that will have much more of an impact on how products will work for you. HTH.

Hi, I'm sorta a newbie lurker too, bout 3 months in, but I would take a look at the Frizz Ease b/c I's pretty sure that has cones in it, also most body lotions have dimethicone and other things that would be coating your hair. Conditioner won't get these things out so your hair could be coated and that is why it isn't really getting healthier. You said you shampoo, but if you aren't using sulfates, then you aren't getting out the dimethicone and other cones that are in the things you are putting in your hair. Your best bet may by to go totally cone free, do a final sulfate wash, then find a good sulfate free shampoo and some products that don't have cones in them. I have had fantastic results using this method. HTH

I would see what happens if you try not brushing out your hair after you take it out of the towel. I actually brush my hair while I'm IN the shower, and even then only with my fingers or a wide-toothed comb. If I do it after I start drying my hair, forget about it -- frizz galore.

really good answers here. currently im useing vo5 shampoo to wash my hair, which does contain sulfates. can anyone recommend a good cheap sulfate free shampoo and a cone free frizz serum. the frizz serum is especially important because i really feel like NEED some kind of anti frizz serum. the conditioner that i use as a leave controls the dryness factor but for some reason it doesn't control the frizz!

I know that L'oreal makes a sulfate free shampoo. I haven't tried it, but I'm sure there are some reviews on one of the message boards. I spend a little bit more and started using KC Come Clean (about $10-$11 at Target). I find that since I just target my scalp I don't use a lot, which offsets the price a bit. Also, you might want to try a heavier conditioner to try to get some extra moisture, since frizz could be a sign of dryness. Tresemme Naturals has a nice cone-free hydrating conditioner, and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition is amazing. I didn't see you mention a styling product. Have you tried using a gel? LA Looks Sports Gel is super cheap and works well.
