Water softener and hair?

I'll start by admitting that this is only a temporary situation, so it's not exactly life or death. I'm visiting my brother's family for the holidays and am noticing my hair is absolutely not cooperating. He uses a water softener, and that's the only thing that's really different. My hair was good yesterday (shower #1), but I loaded up on product (many admittedly new) because we were getting a family picture.

Today I co-washed with DCNP and conditioned with DCOC (not my favorites, but tried and true and I already had smaller travel sizes). I used ArcAngel to style. The Arc Angel is a new product, but I've been using AnGel for almost 2 years. I plopped for no longer than normal and didn't touch my hair and not only had no gel cast, but noticed that my hair was very poofy as it dried.

I do generally co-wash or low poo almost everyday , so that was not any real change (because I didn't want to carry a suitcase full of product i intentionally stuck with stuff that I knew well enough to use for a couple days- I rotate in real life now, but before I found this website I had already been using Deva Curl for almost two straight years with fairly consistent results until I added a cone-filled shine serum).

So my question is- could the water softener be causing my weird hair? If so, how could I possibly alter my hair care to survive softened water? Thanks!

Well, I am no water softener expert (maybe IAgirl will pop in here and enlighten us with some great advice! ). But I know from reading some past threads that harder water isn't always a bad thing, and sometimes soft water makes our hair go a little crazy, especially if we are used to harder water. So, it probably is a water issue. I'm not quite sure how you would go about dealing with something like that, though.

I'm so sorry that I can't be of more help! Hopefully your hair is cooperating a little better with you now.

Thanks! I still have through the weekend to survive. I felt a little better after looking through the "which celeb curls would you want" thread because I noticed lots of votes for Shakira and that seems to be what the softened water is doing to may hair I'm back to the same poof and volume that I had before I started CG.
