How do you know when you need shampoo?

Hey, everyone. I'm really sorry I've been posting so much...

I have washed my hair with shampoo for 10 days and have been co-washing every day. However, my hair is getting a little oily/greasy. Will my scalp get used to the conditioner and make less oil, or should I low-poo wash once a week? I have Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile Soap, which is super natural and not stripping, but I don't want to use shampoo if I don't have to.

*Oh, also, I'm starting an everyday work out plan and don't know if conditioner can cut it. Have any other athletes been able to cowash without ever shampooing?

I'm not an athlete, but co-washing didn't work well for me. I have fine hair and get build up from lots of things that don't bother others. I need to low poo 2-3 times a week and clarify at least once a month.

There can be a transition period when you first start the co-washing only routine. You may want to low poo once a week then once every 10 days and so on until you eventually eliminate poo. Trying different co-washes may also help. It's really a matter of trial and error until you find what your hair responds to best.

I am actually changing my routine...(again, haha)
I'm going back to my HGs that gave my no-fail hair every time. Has anyone heard of Beautiful Curls Shea Butter Shampoo and Leave-in? They're CG and all natural. I guess I'll just wash with the leave-in and use the lowpoo once a week or so. I loved the Yes to Cucumbers, but there was soooo much build-up!

The shampoo you're using can cause build-up, especially if you have hard water. You may have to shampoo more often or change up your shampoo depending on how your hair feels.

I train in martial arts most days during the week (1-2 hours/day, high intensity interval training). I found that I can do 1-2 co-washes before I need to low-poo. I also found that I need to make sure I'm using lighter conditioners for my co-wash (my favorites are KCKT and Tresemme Naturals Radiant Volume). I then use a heavier conditioner as RO and LI. I only attempt 2nd day hair once a week most weeks because I typically workout 5-6 days/wk. So a normal week would look like this:
Sun: 2nd day hair
Mon: co-wash
Tues: co-wash
Wed: low-poo
Thurs: co-wash
Fri: co-wash
Sat: low-poo/PT/DT (brown sugar scrub if needed)

On a rare lazy (or oversleep) day, I'll use a dry shampoo if I don't have time to wash my hair, but I really don't like how my hair feels after sweating heavily for up to 2 hours.

You can also use shampoo on your scalp area only where it tends to get more greasy & do a co-wash from the ears down. You may not need any add'l condidsh after, that will depend how your hair feels.

I think I'll start cowashing with my HG leave-in for a lighter cowash to prevent build-up and greasiness. Also, I will shampoo with my all natural HG low poo once a week or so.
