Curlies..
I really do appreciate all the help and support but Im done... As you can see from my Avatar, that was my ONE and only good hair day.
IVE spent hundreds on products and yet THE attached photo is WHAT my hair looks like EVERYDAY - NO MATTER

Ive tried protein, non protein, glycerin, non glycerin

low poo, no poo, co wash

kinky curly, curl junkie, bottecilli, Garnier, Pure clean... AND ON AND ON

No treatment helped my frizzes - no method HELPED... IT ALWAYS LOOKS dirty, dull and FRIZZY...

ANY AND all combos result in almost the same... VERY rare occasions does it look good for about an hour then it just turns to lifeless, stringy, frizz...

MY avatar was with Come Clean, Knot Today and Curling Custard...
IT NEVER has been that way again so I tried so many other products

IF ANYONE has any other thoughts Im open but Im seriously thinking of just pony tailing it from now on

jnet
3b, DRY, doesnt like protein it SEEMS or Magnesium, I diffuse cause it would take days

I understand the frustration (I experienced that especially my first week because I tend to be impatient), and I know for some people, this process just doesn't work, so you may be one of them. I was just wondering, how long have you been doing CG? Can you tell a difference in how your hair looked before CG until now?

My other suggestions would be if you have not tried, possibly trying different styling techniques (such as icequeen, diffusing, plopping, etc.). Diffusing made the biggest difference for me. Good luck!

^^ day 1 of going CG; avatar = 6 months later
I learned with my hair that the real expensive things don't work for sh*t.... But if I use regular, like suave conditioner, suave gel and hair spray it works so much better!

Sent from my PC36100 using CurlTalk App
And I remember having so many problems trying to find things my hair likes.... Just took a lot of time

Sent from my PC36100 using CurlTalk App
That made me smile

YEAH im thinking of going back to my drugstore things.. I have been doing CG for almost 4 months...

AND Im thinking when I was using WEN it wasnt THIS HARD... my hair always looked decent

BUT DARN it all if I want to give up... LAUGH

I guess Im just so overwhelmed by the fact that I have tried SO SO MANY products and have yet to see a real difference with ANY of them
Have you clarified recently? I wonder if you are over conditioned...? That can cause soft, fly away hair.

Have you tried a different haircut? Just sayin'. You can't have even remotely reliable or predictable hair without a good haircut. And you can get away with a lot less styling products when your haircut helps your hair fall how you like.
Patience, patience! Some things like gelatin PTs require, say, a month of one-per-week uses to show a difference, depending on the condition your hair is in.
Techniques are so important too. A good technique can often make or break a styling product.

It took me ages to learn to style my hair and in the meanwhile, I learned lots of updos that looked good pulled loosely back so I could put my hair up if the styling didn't suit me that day. I also came to realize that a different sort of cut and length was needed to suit my hair and face and that took a while to work out, too. Seriously, teenage girls spend many years learning about fixing their hair, so it's not unreasonable for an adult to require 6 months to a year (even with all the help here) to get things figured out.
If anything works for you reliably, use it and the heck with "CG" rules. It's your hair, you call the shots.

I have days like this!! Sometimes because of bad hair, sometimes because of time consumption, inconsistency, products...

I use only drugstore products. I've been tempted to try some boutique stuff, but I've managed to hold off. All my good hair days have come from drugstore stuff.

The biggest thing is - if CG doesn't work for you, don't do it! You may try clarifying first, and a couple new techniques, but if you decide to "give it up", you can always keep some of the concepts. Maybe you shampoo less often, use sulfate free shampoo, but one with coco betaine since it will still take the cones out.

Did you have better results pre-CG? What made you decide to go CG? Maybe you need to give it more time, maybe you need to try new techniques, maybe you need to find a happy medium between cg and non - point is, do what works for you and your hair!
2c/3a/3b, Fine/med, Dense, high porous, & normal elas.

Lo-poo - Renpure Keratin, SMR, Giovanni SaS
clarifying - mix Johnson's H2T with low poo
Co-wash - Suave Nats. clar. or coco.
RO - GVPCB, Ion Eff. Care, TN.
LI - SMR, Cure Care, or RO
Seal - MO or Jojoba
DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB
PT - Gelatin!, CNPF
Styling - FSG, AIF, BRHG, LALS/PS, GF curl spray gel, SM Souffle/Smoothie, LOOB
Oils - MO!, EVOO, jojoba, GSO, SM Elixer, EVCO, VO5 Hairdressing
For me, I've come to the realization that my hair does NOT like dry winter weather, perhaps yours could be the same? How often to you DT and how long do you leave it on? I find that homemade treatments work just as well if not better and there are so many recipes that you can tweak to fit your hair, and they are pretty low in cost if you use stuff you have at home. My hair loves the olive oil I buy to cook with mixed into my conditioner.

I also only use what I can find at my local target or grocery store as I am really trying to keep my costs under 10$ a bottle (for a good sized bottle). At the suggestion of another forum member I recently tried Yes to Carrots conditioner and I am having pretty good luck with that. Although today I am fighting a little bit of frizz that I think it was self induced.

What also helped was a homemade protein treatment followed by a deep conditioning treatment.

Also I know someone suggested trying some of the methods, but what methods are you using? Icequeen's method helped me get curl all the way to the root in my long hair and plopping for as long as I can has really helped me reduce frizz.

Saturday I was able to plop til my hair was mostly dry and I had almost no frizz at all. Today only for an hour and I have more frizz. I also found that messing with my hair is very detrimental to my style and just adds frizz. Which is also a good reason for me to plop as long as I can (if I cant see it, I cant touch it :P).

I agree hair can be super frustrating, I've only been working on a true CG method myself for 2 months and have briefly considering just chopping it all off (well not really lol).

The best thing that has worked for me is to just accept my hair for what its worth. I figure as long I keep my attitude positive, treat it right, it should eventually (I hope) fall into place how I want it to.
I don't think it looks bad....

You didn't post about styling products. What gel are you using? Gel is the #1 reason my hair doesn't look frizzy. Lotsa people have naturally frizzy hair.

Hi - just wanted to say that I started about 2 months ago and I understand your frustration as I have been having the same problem - frizzy, undefined flat hair and with pricey products. Things turned around pretty radically in the past week when, thanks to a forum member, I realized I was using way too much product.

Also, there was a video I saw by mysteryflavor maybe? about applying kccc. I realized I was applying my gels wrong, besides just using way too much. I'm now finally seeing results. Just wanted to give you some encouragement.
I've been mod-CG just over a year now and it's been a VERY bumpy road so I understand your frustration!!!! It was getting to the point where I just wanted to rip my hair out and cry and getting very stressed out. I felt like I was constantly buying new hair products when I had no business spending money and none of the techniques that were working for everyone else were doing nothing for me. Finally, I just said "forget it" and now I just mix some mousse with spray gel and let it air dry. My hair doesn't come out fabulous but doesn't look hideous either and I just feel more relaxed about it. I'm hoping once it gets longer (cutting it short is what really started the problems for me), it'll get easier to deal with again but we'll see!!! Good luck and stay strong!!
2a, fine-med. text, normal porosity (I think)

mod-CG since December '10

I have Celiac's Disease so no gluten please!

My hair is basically my hobby!!

florestamaria - Im thinking maybe thats it too.. maybe too much product

AS to gel - I have used pure clean, aussie instant freeze and now Bio Rock Hard Gelee

BUT I stopped using them to see if THAT was my problem...
You all know how hard it is to PINPOINT just exactly what is going on...
Its like you have to start at the beginning each time... different combos with different methods
LIONS and Tigers and Bears O MY!!!

AHHHHHHH
TODAY I just threw my hair up because AGAIN, even though I sleep on a satin pillow and PINEAPPLE it up... Im never getting 2nd day hair - but im leaving THAT frustration for another time...

I GUESS Im going back to Kinky Curly and trying less KCCC - and then add some GEL to see what happens.

GRUMBLE
I was thinking because I was getting such frizz, I needed more and more product. Also, even though I don't like the Deva gels, I did watch the CG dvd they have in the book and she globbed the stuff on so I was following that routine. As Diana said, other products are much more concentrated while Deva gels have more water so you need more of their's but not other brands necessarily.

I'm currently rotating between SS FHG, CJ PP and KCCC - will be trying BB FSG today. I use a leave-in and am doing PTs regularly. Then, after whatever gel I'm using, I scrunch in a very small amount of BHRG. I was hesitant about adding that particular gel because I really dislike hard, producty hair, but using just a little amount still keeps it soft and it does make the shape hold the whole day and it's shiny. That kccc application video helped me too though because she really works the gels through the hair and I was applying it on the canopy mainly because my scrunching was rather limited. I was afraid too much scrunching would create more frizz, but, at least in my case, I realize now it gets the clumps to form and distributes the product more evenly.

PS - diffusing on low gives me more volume too.

Good luck!
