Which looks better? With Skip Curl or without? - Pics

Like Tree2Likes

I go back and forth on this one. Some days I like my hair with the clumpier skip curl look and sometimes I think it looks better with the wilder scrunched look. What do you think? First two pics are skip curled and second 2 are not.

I think they both look great!!!! And I'm pretty jealous that you can get both looks amazingly!!!!

I agree! I like them both - youre lucky, you can wear it either way and it looks great!

- 2C - Coarse Canopy & med/fine underlayers
- MOP C Hydrating 'poo
- LOreal Natures Therapy Moisturizing condish, ION Effective Care, Garnier S&S (old formula)
- treatments: CJ Curl Rehab, CJ Repair Me!
- plopping, diffusing, and clipping the roots
Thank you both so much!

But no preference at all??

I feel like it's neater with the skip curls, but I think I end up with less volume as the day goes on. And without, it's stringier, but the volume stays. They both have pros and cons.

Just thought maybe there was something I wasn't seeing and I would get a bunch of answers for one way and then know which one to go with on a regular basis. Right now I do one or two weeks one way and then decide I like it the other way and then switch back.

Both look great, actually! But I guess my preference would be the skip curled version. Both really do look nice tho! Guess you can just alternate depending on your mood!
2c/3a/3b, Fine/med, Dense, high porous, & normal elas.

Lo-poo - Renpure Keratin, SMR, Giovanni SaS
clarifying - mix Johnson's H2T with low poo
Co-wash - Suave Nats. clar. or coco.
RO - GVPCB, Ion Eff. Care, TN.
LI - SMR, Cure Care, or RO
Seal - MO or Jojoba
DT - + honey, ACV, & EVOO to SM masque & GVPCB
PT - Gelatin!, CNPF
Styling - FSG, AIF, BRHG, LALS/PS, GF curl spray gel, SM Souffle/Smoothie, LOOB
Oils - MO!, EVOO, jojoba, GSO, SM Elixer, EVCO, VO5 Hairdressing
They both look nice, but I have a preference for the first two.

But, time is a factor. If it took a long time to do it, I'd just go for the second look because I'm lazy.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
You have such pretty hair! I personally think the skip-curl look seems shinier and neater, but both at totally cute and workable. If it were me I would switch off with the looks, much as I do with clothes: sometimes I like structured and tailored looks, and sometimes I am I the mood for something with more natural, graceful lines. You hair is pretty both ways. Just a thought... You could try to use some kind of hairspray to try and salvage volume for your skip-curls... Might give you the best of your preferred worlds.
You can't stop my happiness 'cuz I like the way I am! -Hairspray
Dangerously open to product suggestion
3b, thick, angled bob, coarse, low(ish) porosity.
Favs:
Poo (when I get buildup): Bumble&Bumble Curly Shampoo
Lo-poo: L'Oreal EverCurl Cleansing Conditioner
LI: Aveda Be Curly Prep
Stylin': Aveda Be Curly Curl Enhancer for a natural full-bodied look, SheaMoisture Smoothie for finger curls.

The skip curl. It gives off a lil more shine
Both! The skip curl gives you more clumps...but without, I think it still looks cute, just not as clumpy! Definitely something you could switch depending on your mood/preference!
3 a/b Medium texture/Normal porosity/Normal elasticity
Products I'm currently using:
Lo-Poo: KC Come Clean (1 x week)
Co-wash/RO: Suave Naturals Everlasting Sunshine
Stylers: UFD CM + BRHG

Hair dislikes: lots of protein, glycerin
I have the same dilemma. If my hair is clumpy, I don't have as much volume. I go back and forth with clumping and not clumping. I do like your first two pics the best. I think your pics actually have helped me decide to stick with trying to be clumpy.

I agree, the skip curl looks really nice - neater but not permed (if that makes sense), shinier, really pretty.

I have a similar "problem" with my hair, ever since I started using FSG. I love FSG, it's my new HG but it is super time consuming because I have alot of hair. And if you use FSG you know you have to really saturate the hair to get it work well. It takes me literally longer after the shower to "do" my products than it does to actually shower! Its a PITA. I hate it, plus the FSG is cold from the fridge so if/when it runs down my back, it feels nasty. Then the hard hold gel over it, then super soaker on top of that, then plopping, etc. Then cleaning up the mess I just made in the bathroom... time consuming. But my hair looks fabulous - if I take the time to diffuse it (another 45 minutes at least). It looks alot like your skip curls, actually
Is it worth it? When a random stranger asks me if my hair is naturally curly and then tells me how pretty it is, yeah, it's totally worth it (that happened yesterday and it made my day). When I have to get ready 2 hours earlier than the time I need to leave the house, well, it doesn't feel as worth it. But whenever I use a less high-maintenance product (and one I can air-dry with and used to like the results before FSG) I am not as pleased any more.

God forbid I started skip curling and using FSG! LOL I'd never get out of the bathroom.

I guess it goes back to how much time you want to spend, and how pleased you are with the look. I get what you mean about the volume - I have the same problem now too, but I always attributed that to no cones (less buildup, maybe?) and no sulfates. My hair isn't frizzed to the max anymore.
I do know my hair is super soft, shiny, and pretty much frizz free now, and I love that. If you love how your hair looks, with either method, then both are right for you
That's me with FSG as my styler!!

3b. fine & thick, coarse, dry, medium porosity. Sucks up product and loves ACVs! FSG is my HG!

Currently using:
Low Poo: TJ's Refresh No Poo: CoWash w/VO-5; Sonoma Soap Company sulfate-free poo
RO: Yes to Cuc; SSC Lavender Condish; Sally GVP LI: Donna Marie Miracle D&C
Style: FSG w/Aussie Instant Freeze & CIAB
I agree that both looks are great! I guess it would depend on the mood you're in. Our hair is very similar and I tend to do the scrunch method more often because it's quicker and I like to let my curls do their own thing! Sometimes I feel too Shirley-Temple-ish with the structured curls. It depends on my mood. You look great either way. Enjoy the flexibility.

Your hair is very pretty.

I like both ways, but skip curl a little better.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I think I agree with the majority and like the skip curls better.

But, time is a factor. If it took a long time to do it, I'd just go for the second look because I'm lazy.
It doesn't take too long. Maybe an extra 5-10 minutes. I just do the top layer.

You could try to use some kind of hairspray to try and salvage volume for your skip-curls... Might give you the best of your preferred worlds.
The only 2 CG hairsprays I've found have protein and my hair doesn't like it. What I've been doing is using spray gel at the roots when dry and drying the gel with the diffuser.

Sometimes I feel too Shirley-Temple-ish with the structured curls.
Exactly! I feel the same way sometimes.

I think I just scrunched in that one, but I have more hair now because I'm trying to grow to APL or BSL. It doesn't look the same anymore.

Like both. Love the skip curl one!

First off your hair is gorgeous either way. I do love the skip curl look. What I like to do is let the clumped hair dry completely than fluff out a bit. Best of both worlds!
I think your hair looks great both ways. I love your hair it's perfect! But what exactly is "skip curl"? Is it some sort of method that makes your hair more clumpy?
2c/3a some 3b/Thick/Fine texture?/High Porosity
Currently trying out the CG method again as of 1/3/12!
