Default Need advice on Devachan method

Hi all. I had my hair cut a while ago by someone trained in the Devachan method. When she styled my hair with all the products, it looked greater than ever before, so of course I brought everything. I was disappointed when I got home that I could never recreate the look, and in fact my hair looked worse than before. That's just my little rant, but here is my question:
I have heard from my stylist and read here suggestions about styling hair when it is still basically soaking wet, and not using a towel and just patting it dry. My hair is extremely thick and pretty long. Using a diffuser (after product), it takes almost an hour to get completely dry, and half an hour to get to the point where it does not drip down my back. I don't really have that kind of time very often (plus my arms get tired). What do you people with thick, long hair do about the drying time? Patting my hair with a t-shirt does nothing to get it dry-- it will drip for hours after. I hear all these great things about this method and want it to work for me, but cannot figure out how. Please help!

Thanks

Are you scrunching your hair with paper towels after you've applied product to wet hair? I think most Devachan Curl Consultants do that method, and I know it definitely helps me with drying time and curl formation. Also, have you tried plopping? If not, you'll have no problem finding threads about it. It also helps speed up the drying time for me, and I do it after I've scrunched with the paper towels, for about 15 minutes, then I diffuse. My hair is to the middle of my back and even after doing all of the above it still takes time to dry, but if I didn't do any of those steps, it would be several hours before it dried (unless I went productless).

Alot of people either use a microfiber towel to scrunch out excess water or "plop" which is basically wrapping your hair in a microfiber towel, t-shirt or turban which seems to cut down on dry time. Jessicurl has a great demonstration video on her website(she calls it plunking) that shows how to do it. Good luck!

my favorite routine now is doing my hair at night. either i plop and air dry and pineapple to sleep, or if late i just plop overnight--when first microfiber turban is wet i use a second and sometimes a third. wake up with damp hair which dries in about 45min while i get ready.

I have bra strap length hair, and it takes about 2 hours for it to dry. I plopp for the first hour, then air dry the second. Blow drying even less time, but that's not a usual activity for me. Plopping makes a huge difference for me in the time it takes to dry.

I have bra strap length hair too. When I'm using Deva products, I leave some One C in then scrunch the Angell into my hair in the shower while it's still soaking wet. I then use a microfiber towel to scrunch the excess water out. Paper towels do work awesome too. Then I plop while I'm doing my make-up and checking my e-mail, etc. I then put clips in at the roots and aim the car vent at my hair on the way to work (about a 20-30 minute ride).

I've found that putting Angell into soaking wet hair really does make a difference. I've also found that I get more frizz if I diffuse while using Angell which is why I go the car vent route.

I only use deva products and also go to bed withwet hair after drying with an aquis towel. My hair isn't as long as yours, but why don't you try plopping overnight? It took my hair awhile to get used to deva products and now they really work. good luck.

Ladies, I had never heard of plopping until your replies, and I tried it 2 showers ago and it changed my life! You guys are the best! Next q: what is pineapple? From the sound of it it is like plopping but with dry hair? But I can't quite picture how it works. I usually only get my hair wet in the shower every other day at night, so anything that keeps my hair looking awesome until the AM is appreciated too. Thanks for all the help!

A pineapple is just pulling up your hair into a loose ponytail on top of your head, like the leaves of a pineapple. It's a good way to keep your curls from getting messed up overnight.
