Tangles

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out why my hair is more tangled on one side than the other. My left side will detangle with no problems at all, but the right side is the complete opposite. No matter what I use, or how I detangle (finger detangle, wide tooth comb, even a brush) nothing gets the tangles out except for a lot of effort and time. I only detangle with lots of conditioner in my hair while in the shower. I've tried ACV rinses, different conditioners, DTs and PTs and while all of this seems to benefit one side it seems to do nothing for the other when it comes to detangling.

This IS the side I sleep on the most, but I tend to flip back and forth often enough. My hair is 2c/3a long (mid back almost waist length), could be porous from dying, last dye job was about two months ago, but henna'd twice now. My last hair cut was a trim about 4 weeks ago now. If it were both sides being the problem, I'd just get another trim and see if that helped, but being that it is only the one side I am not sure what to do.

Any thoughts, I am completely bewildered by this.

It sounds like it's probably because that's the side you sleep on the most, I have no idea what else it would be! How do you sleep with your hair at night? You should try pineappling your hair or put it in a sleep cap to prevent the tangles.
2c/3a some 3b/Thick/Fine texture?/High Porosity
Currently trying out the CG method again as of 1/3/12!

Current Routine:
Co-wash/RO: Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
Low poo: Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat (when needed)
Products: LA Looks Sports Gel and Curly Kinks Coil Jam

I've tried pineappling it at night, same effect. And the way I sleep was the first thing I thought it was, but this happens during washing. I can take perfectly untangled hair into the shower and still have this problem as soon as I get the hair wet, apply conditioner and start combing. Its like getting my hair wet causes the problem.

I end up sleeping on both sides almost equally, so if this were the cause wouldn't both sides react the same?
I have that issue, but only with the crown of head. I try to use a super moisturizing conditioner only on that spot and leave it on for longer in the shower. That's the only thing that help for me. I use Aubrey honeysuckle conditioner
Odd question - but does that happen to be the side you carry your purse or bag on? That can cause hair damage (depending on your length), and make it more prone to tangling on that side.

Oils - MO!, EVOO, jojoba, GSO, SM Elixer, EVCO, VO5 Hairdressing
Jas76 - Nope it is not that side, plus my purse has a short strap so its usually in the crook of my arm or in my hands.

Nikki3b - I've been thinking of trying that conditioner but want to use up the supply of everything else I've bought before I purchase anything else.

I also went on a S&D mission on that side today to see if that helps since I tend t get pretty bad split ends regardless of how much I moisturize.
I think you may need to change what you are co-washing with. I had that problem, and I read about some others that were having the same problem. I had to change several times to find the right thing. My hair is extremely extremely thick. The side I sleep on does tend to tangle more, but when I use GVP Conditioning Balm as my rinse out, it almost always detangles on the spot! I think if you experiment, you might be able to solve your problem. I know it's frustrating, and I'm thankful we have these boards to exchange ideas!!!

Thanks for the advice I went ahead and ordered some GVP conditioning balm and aubrey organics honey suckle rose conditioner. So once they arrive I'll update with my results.
Hi
Just wanted to update as I got GVP conditioning balm today.. Wow super thick, not a lot of slip but a LOT of moisture. The lack of slip may have been due to the PT I did right before but did not have time to do a moisture treatment after, since we had dinner plans with another couple. (sitting with a DT on now though :P) But wow super impressed with the GVP, I had no frizz, none, zero which is a first for me. Curls were a little more relaxed but I think that was from heavy product application (due to not being used to this much moisture) or due to the PT an no DT, but my hair feels great regardless.
