good and cheap styling combo from Sally's!

Hi,

I picked up Ion curling creme and Aquelle gel at Sally's yesterday-both products for under ten dollars total

They each have dimethicone with PEG-8 listed in front. I'm thinking that means it's water soluble, right? I asked it on another thread.

Anyway, this morning I conditioned with a mixture of Activate and VO5 Peaches conditioner. Then after blotting with a microfiber towel, I worked through some of the curl creme and layered the gel over it. I got very nice, well defined curls and no frizz! The gel does dry a little crunchy, but it was easy to scrunch out. My hair looks as nice as when I use Rockin Ringlets/Confident Coils and the products are less than half the price!

Has anyone else used these products?

Sherry
I have been wanting to try RR/CC but if these work just as well at a lesser price I guess I'll pick these up

I am curious about these products now. I use Jessicurl and really like it but if I could do it with something cheaper, that's all the better. Keep us posted on how it works.

Whats the exact name of the aquelle gel ?Cause I saw that one gel was discontinued.

after i read this post i went out to sallys today ( dang PJ! ).. and found the gel and the curl creme too. i tend to smell products cuz if the smell isnt pleseant i wont buy it. the gel i didnt like the smell so i passed on it . they had one left of the the Ion curl creme , which i loved the smell . i was walking around and found a curl creme called Biotera styling curl creme . it was a package deal with the full size Biotera mousterizing poo for $11 but was on sale for $8 for both (the curl creme alone is about $9 ) so since i had a sallys discount card it came to $9 total, i figured i could try out the poo, it was a great deal too and thank god when i got home the curl creme smelled good lol..its a lightweight curl creme ...i put the Ion curl creme back but sill might try that later on..if this creme works then mabye i wont have to get CCSS anymore, i still have a whole bottle of CCSS and use on and off since i rotate my products but shoot if some other curl creme works just the same as CCSS but cheaper then ill take it .

I almost bought the Biotera curl creme, but the saleswoman said it doesn't have a very strong hold. I need a lot of hold since my curl pattern isn't really strong.

I'll try the combo tomorrow and see if it works again-I'll also post the exact name of the gel. It came in a tube, and it's blue-it better not be discontinued, because I really like it!

If this is the one you have then there's no need to worry sherry:

sure ill let ya know how the Biotera curl creme works out Delma . ...i think ill pair it with either RR or my suave sculpting freeze gel 2morrow.. if i do use a light weight creme i always need to pair it with a hard to hold gel .. i also saw on the sallys website that they had biotera gel but i didnt see it in the store today , then again i wasnt really looking for it. maybe ill try that too some time..i find that certain creams weigh down my hair , so far CCSS, Re:coil , and Boots dont but im always on the look out for something similair to those 3 curl creams since the price is a tad pricey for those 3..thank god for the swap board at times lol .

Thanks, Delma. My computer directed me to another site for Sally's (I don't know why)

Here is the link-it's Aquelle Extreme Hold Gel:

I'll try it again today with the curl creme and post how it works. My curls lasted until 10 pm last night

Sherry, what type of curls do you have?

Hi,

My curls are mainly 3a, fine hair, wavy underneath and a little bit of 3b-a mixture of everything!

I tried the combo again today, and it came out well, but not as well as yesterday. Today I used No-Poo, and I swear, it dried out my hair. My hair seems to hate Deva products. It was freezing and windy here, so I'm sure wearing a hat did not help my curls at all. They still looked pretty good, though!

I'll try it again tomorrow, without washing with No Poo.

Take care,
Sherry

Just bumping to see how you are doing with it. I may be going to Sally's soon if it is still working well for you.

Hi,

Today my hair was a disaster, but I can't blame the styling products. I tried a new shampoo (sulfate free) and conditioner by Shikai, and my hair was a dry, frizzy mess. I had to pin back the front and sides and blow out my bangs to look presentable. If I'd had time, I would have wet down my hair and started over.

Tomorrow I"ll go back to using Activate conditioner and the two products from Sally's and post how it goes.

I don't know why I keep trying different stuff-it hardly ever works I'm so frustrated with my hair. I can't find anything that seems to cleanse it well without drying/frizzing and doesn't cost a fortune.
Sigh....

I use the Ion curling creme everyday since its been really wintery. I do it like you do. after the shower I put it on soaking wet hair - I put in a lot though since its not very thick, like 2 quarters maybe - and then I scrunch my hair for a minute and the put on a handful of gel. I also usually diffuse. It has turned out great almost every time I've done it. I really like the creme.
I hope you have better luck with your hair tomorrow!
I don't know if it helps you, but I have good luck with Jessicurl Hair Cleansing Cream and the Too Shea conditioner. Prior to that for drugstore brands, I used John Frieda Radiant Red Shampoo and Condish and really liked those. I don't know if you color or not, but they make one for redheads, blondes and brunettes. Some people don't like them but I never had any trouble with them for drying out my hair and it can get kind of dry sometimes. Do you do deep treatments? That is supposed to help too although I have not tried those lately. I used to use one years ago by Ion but I am not positive they make it anymore. It was a single use packet and was usually on sale for $0.99. It was a white cream and very thick.

ARGHH! Today I washed in JC HCC and conditioned with Too Shea, and used the Ion curl creme and Aquelle. I had good results this morning, but now the curls are all limp. This is so frustrating! I"m wondering if the Aquelle is too sticky for my fine hair? I'll try the Ion with Tizz no Frizz and see if that works...
