get sick of all the products? the infinite combinations? Think that it reaches the point of madness or at the least, absurdity? I hope I am not offending. I dont mean to. It just gets exhausting, tiring..fruitless even.
I agree! I just pretty much stick to the basics with products.. I don't have the patience to try out a bunch of different products and product combinations.. I just use one product at a time, usually LA looks sports gel, but I'll occasionally use something else. It works pretty well for me, so I'm just sticking with it.
2c/3a some 3b/Thick/Fine texture?/High Porosity
Currently trying out the CG method again as of 1/3/12!

Current Routine:
Co-wash/RO: Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle
Low poo: Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat (when needed)
Products: LA Looks Sports Gel and Curly Kinks Coil Jam

I know what you mean. I think some people must have the patience of saints to keep trying different things all the time. Mine ran out a long time ago. I'm also sick of the fact that I need said products to have my hair look half decent.

I agree with everyone above, I am so not a product junkie! I'm a typical creature of habit with the attitude of "if it continues to work for me, I'll use it to death", lol! I have 2 condishes which I use in rotation and a gel that I put on top of that and I'm good to go!

P.S. May I hasten to add that I admire PJs and non PJs alike. If you can get good results with your tresses by using a multitude of products, or get just as good results by using a small amount of products, it's all good. Each to their own.

Maybe it's because I didn't start using products until I was 56, but I love it. It's a pleasure to figure out what combination I'm going to use each day. Not only am I a product junkie, but I'm a product strumpet on top of it, LOL! I find new favorites all of the time.

I've learned so much about my hair the last four years. I don't have to try every product that anyone discusses here on nc.com. I've learned to be discriminating about what I buy and try. If that means anything.

LOL, Kathy, I thought I was the oldest curly here! I also did not start using products until later in my life. I cannot imagine that now! I just want to find one or 2 that works great. Despite what others are doing here, I am not CG, and - I use mousse and layer gel over it, probably with decent results.
I completely understand. While I do find it fun to try new products every now and then, it gets to be a little bit much when you look in your cabinet and there are a ton of products that will probably never get used up.

I think to get the best of both worlds, find maybe 2 or three products that work for you, then use them in rotation.

I'm not a PJ either. In fact I had what I felt were too many products and i'm almost done using them up.

All the fancy stuff is nice once in a while. I tried to make myself purchase something online last week and I couldn't. I had enough stuff to use on my hair.

I can never seem to find it...
It comes and goes in waves. (haha I made a pun! ) Right now I feel no real desire to style my hair and instead am just washing and conditioning with no styling products. For me, no styling products means no waves but I just don't care right now.

And when the amount of products becomes overwhelming, I start to list stuff on the swap board. Right now I've thinned down stuff a bit and realized most of my products are conditioners, and a few are multiples that I got on sale (CJ Smoothing, Curl Rehab, BSC).
Cheetara and IAgirl like this.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

I got all the PJ out of my system with the assistance of allergies. I can use homemade stuff and one store-bought gel. It's unscented and completely unromantic. Okay, I do like to try new things with the homemade stuff, but that's different, right? Right???
At first, some of us like to throw everything at a problem (like hair) and eliminate the ineffective stuff. That's often my approach and it is a frustrating one while I go through the process of selection and successive failures. When I have better understanding and control of all the variables in a problem and know what result I am aiming for, I don't take the "kitchen sink" (or is it "shotgun?") approach at all. I carefully select the things I am going to do because I suspect they will be effective. That's the difference between knowing "squat" about the problem vs. having enough info. to form a testable hypothesis.

When I attacked the "what to do with my wavy hair" problem, I had no true understanding of how the products worked, how to use them, what result to expect, how it all worked with haircuts, seasons etc. So there was no way to formulate a predictable routine and weed out the "losers" in advance.

It's like swimming, if you're thrown into the water without knowing how to do some basic strokes and backfloat, you'll thrash around, waste a lot of energy and go nowhere for a while until you get the hang of it. If we knew what we were getting into and somebody could tell us from the start, "If you use this and that product, you will have this result" then we'd just jump in the pool and start swimming effortless laps.

Being "over" trying new stuff is hopefully the point at which we've got things figured out. And fearfully the point at which a favorite product is discontinued!

Out of curiousity what store bought gel can you use? I have some sensitivities that I am still trying to sort out so continually looking for stuff with least amount of chemicals and what not.

I too got sick of it - well I think I wore it out of my system! I'm on a curl cream & a gel and that's it. I don't want to be layering lots of things and trying lots of things now (though it wasn't always that way!)
