BRHG / Beyond the Zone / LA Looks - Best Gel to combine with KCCC
HELP!!
Does anyone have any thoughts on which of these hard hold gels would be best to put combine or put over KCCC for 2C/3A Wavy hair?
I keep reading about BRHG, but for the cost I just don't know if I am sold yet.
I know quite a few frugal curlies use the LA Looks Gel with good results.
And as far as products at Sally's I have read some good reviews about BTZ - but they have so many different gels I am not really sure which one to even try. (On a similar note - I am tempted to try the noodle head curl creme but still trying to figure out if it is CG friendly).
Any thoughts, hints, or advice would be greatly appreciated

I vote BRHG!!!! The cost is actually really low since you only have to use a pea size amount. I've used it pretty much daily for months and not even half way through...

BRHG for sure. If you're already shelling out the big bucks for KCCC, why not get some lovely BRHG to make your hair look its best.

Thanks ladies! So would I mix the BRHG with the KCCC? Or put it over the KCCC?
I guess part of me is worried that I won't be able to distribute such a small amount evenly through my hair. I'm still new at this and find that I pretty much suck at getting thing evenly distributed through my hair

Must have been fate ... I stopped at the only Walgreens in a 10 mile radius that said it carried BRHG. After searching high & low I couldn't find it and chalked it up to a sign that it wasn't meant to be. Then on my way out I stopped at the clearance cart ... Low and behold BRHG for $6.99!!! I bought all 3 and I don't even know if I like it - lol. Just too good a deal to pass up!!

I just mix a pea size amount into each kccc blob before putting it in my hair. I agree it would be tough to put such a tiny amount into your hair, plus it's too thick to apply evenly by itself.

I love BHRG too. I've used LA Looks Power Spikes (hold level 12) as a much cheaper substitute. I have to use more than pea sized amount but it does give good hold over my other gels (AIF, HESMU, KCCC). It's also glycerin free!!
Only bad thing about it is the smell. It's a manly kind of scent but doesn't linger and the other gels tone it down.

I have 3 gels I use - LALS, HESMU, and BRHG. (I also sometimes use LALPS). I will mix a small amount of BRHG with my 2nd/last dose of gel. Sometimes I have he HESMU in there as well as or instead of the LALS.
I'm not big on the BRHG cost, either, but since I mix a small amount with other stuff it lasts me a long time. And it really works! Think of it as a "gel booster".

BRHG, hands down. I scrunch a small amount in over KCCC, and it works marvelously. I put BRHG over everything.
Oh, and I tried Beyond the Zone Spike it, and it had good hold, but it flaked really bad.

Good to know about BYZ.
Right now I'm getting really good results mixing a little KCCC with a pea size blob of BRHG and a quarter size blob of GF Pure Clean gel. Oh and I start with a little ky jelly & biotera curl creme in the shower. Quite a recipe but it seems to be working

Can you explain your routine a little more, namely how you apply the curl creme and then whether you mix the Pure Clean with the BRHG or KCCC or if you apply it before or after the BRHG?

Well my latest experiment has been taking 1 pump of the biotera curl Creme and mixing it in my hand with a quarter size blob of ky jelly. I basically scrunch it in upside down right after I turn off the shower - so my hair is pretty much dripping wet. Once I think it is pretty much distributed I do a few more scrunches to wring out the extra water.
While I'm still upside down I get my gel mix together. I start with a small 2 finger scoop of KCCC (maybe a dime or nickel size?) in my hand I then squeeze the little blob of BRHG and the blob of pure clean gel. I rub my hands together to mix and emulsify the products. Starting with my right hand I start scrunching the product into my hair upside down. Once I feel like all the product is off my hand and in my hair, I flip upright. I rub my hands together again to distribute the gel from my left hand into both hands. I lean to the right and repeat scrunching process with my right hand. Then I lean to the left and repeat scrunching process with my left hand. If any product is left I put it through my crown.
Next I use a microfiber towel to scrunch out any excess moisture and really push the product into my hair. If I have time I will plop for a few minutes. Then using a bowl diffuser to diffuse dry.
For 2nd day hair I spray with water and usually scrunch a little more of the gels in (just depends on how well my waves look) and diffuse.
Sounds complicated, but it's really not to bad. Much easier than when I used to blow dry, flat iron, & use the hot rollers!!
I got my first CG compliment today (from my sons hairstylist) and that was with second day hair.
Hope that helps!!
Oh and here are some pics of my second day hair - not great since they are from my phone, but hopefully you can kinda see the results

Forgot to mention I initially diffuse inside down to try and get some volume in my roots - maybe 2 or 3 minutes? Then I flip my hair upright and diffuse the rest of the way. If I don't do both I get this crazy part all the way to almost the middle of my head in the back!!! :P
