Travel hair

Hi Curly friends,

How do you take care of your hair when you travel? My 3a hair is best when it dries naturally but that can take an hour before I go out. I hate to lug a diffuser and frankly it doesn't do the best job.
Problem is that when on vacation I often want to get up and out the door quickly. As a result my hair is always blah. If it's not a day I need to wash then I spritz it and it's okay. It's the wash days that are the biggest problem.
What do you do when you travel? Should I just get a hat?!
One word - gel! And letting the hair dry naturally is just fine on vacation. I never use heat on my hair(even a diffuser)whether I'm home or not. Gel is my best friend - my hair would look awful without it. 2c3a people really benefit from styling products IMO.
thanks! Gel is great. My hair is long and takes forever to dry. I'm just tired of always going out in the morning with wet hair. It's okay on a beach vacation but I'm going to London.
What gel do you like?
I have to confess I straighten my hair when I go away. I can't get second day hair, I have to do my whole routine every morning, which is just too time-consuming when, as you say, you just want to be out the door in a morning. Sorry, not much help for you.

You make me laugh, straightening is easier! However, my kids hate the way I look when I straighten it! I actually do better with second day hair. It's the first day that requires all air dry time. The other thing to consider is that lovely London misty rain. It usually causes lots of frizz. My bigger problem is finding a sharp trench coat WITH A HOOD! Why do they make rain coats without hoods?
Maybe you could wash it at night and after 30 minutes put it in a pineapple bun before you go to bed? Just a suggestion but it will be dry in the morning and you end up with beautiful curls.

Hmmm, can you explain a "pineapple bun"?

I just wash my hair before going to bed. I put a towel over my pillow, and cover that with a silk scarf or flour sack towel, so the pillow doesn't get soaked. Then I let my hair lay loose on the pillow, where it dries without gravity pulling the curl out. In the morning, if it needs any touchup, I dampen it very lightly. A very light coating of emulsified Boots Curl Creme over that will boost the curl if you need it; and is both cheap and readily available at Boots, The Chemist.
Peace,

I take a Hot Sock diffuser with me on vacation and use the hotel hair dryer.

Thanks for all the great advice. I tried the pineapple bun last night. It gave me better 2nd day hair. The curls were not flattened.
I'm going to get a hot sock too!
Glad it worked. Have fun.x
