color and curls??

I've been looking thru my photo albums and I'm looking at pics of me of about 8 or 9 years ago before I did anything to my hair at all. No color, and I don't remember using any product either.
And I have such curly hair! It's shorter but it's so curly. Could coloring be pulling the curl out?
I am now back to my natural color and I really like it. I'm going to keep it and I may try and not color anymore (unless I get gray) and see what happens.
How long after coloring before hair goes back to it's natural state? OR does it ever after coloring it?

My hair was the same way when I was young...beautiful blonde curls...with no effort at all.

Coloring doesn't permanently take away my curls. Usually for about a week after I color my curls are in shock but they always come back. I dislike my real color so not coloring is not an option for me!

I don't notice a change in my curls from coloring, but I have read of others who have. Maybe it depends on the process or how drastic the change is? I use a demi to go from dirty blonde to red, which isn't super drastic.

Ab-star. I love the new avatar. The other baby one was cute too., But, in my peripheral vision, I kept thinking that it was a cervix.

I don't think my RC Color affects my curl, but it's gentle. When I've had pro hilites and they colored the whole head afterwards, it all went straighter for quite a while (they fried my hair with ammonia and peroxide).

However, hair does change every so many years. My hair was not as thick or curly as a child, then got thick and very curly from teen to mid 30s, now it seems to be not as curly. But I think that has to do with the amount of gray I have now, which is straighter (with or without color). :x

I think that the kind of color you're using could make a difference. The harsher the dye seems to have the effect on some people of loosening the curl. I don't remember this happening to me when I was younger, but since I started dyeing again I decided not to take a chance and have been using ammonia-free dyes.

It's been ages since I used any color, but when I did I really liked Naturtint. It doesn't have ammonia and was very gentle. It's semi-permanent as well. Has anyone tried the new Loreal Color Match btw? It's supposed to be without ammonia, but I don't know how gentle it really is.

I've been coloring my hair with various types of color since I was 17 (I'm 32 now) and never noticed that it affected my curl formation. I was also going through some old photos last night and had the same notion. I used to have tight corkscrews with short hair (even up to a length like I have now) and now it is more wavy than curly. I was wondering if it had something to do with going CG or the fact that when my hair was long I almost always pulled it into a tight bun when wet for 3+ years... who knows. I'm guessing that curls go through ages and stages like the rest of us. Only time - and a short haircut- will tell!

I know this probably isn't too helpful, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone with this baffling issue!
