Deva Curl Safe for Babies and Pregnant Women?
I have a concern about the ingredients listed on one of their products. Some of these ingredients are highly questionable as to whether they can be used by little babies and pregnant women. Here is the ingredient list I found on an Amazon page selling one of their products:
Cetearyl Alcohol, Behenalkonium Chloride, Glycerin, Glycol Distearate, Cetyl Esters, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea, Iodopropyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance (Parfum), Propylene Glycol, Cetrimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Diazolidinyl Urea. Botanicals: Oleo Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Melissa Officinalis (Lemon Balm) Extract, Humulus Lupulas (Hops) Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, \Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, Achillea Millefolium (Yarrow) Extract. Here is a page that made me question DevaCurl, which lists ingredients that should be avoided: Holistically Haute: Safe Skin Care for Mommies-to-Be I don't want to discourage anyone who has successfully used Deva Curl products. I just want to know if anyone has done the research to know whether it's safe for use on those most vulnerable to the effects of ingredients. |
Which ingredients are you worried about, specifically? You can try researching those on the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ASTDR) website.

Thanks for the link. I just realized I had some duplicates.
For a start, I'm most suspicious about the propylene glycol, Iodopropyl Butylcarbamate, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Diazolidinyl Urea, and Cetrimonium Chloride. The yarrow was mentioned on one of the sites I linked as being not good for pregnant women. I don't know too much about them. I guess I'm getting a bit nervous that I have to cancel my DevaCurl specialist aspirations except maybe the cut (if they'll even do that). |
Just called the salon in NY. Was referred to curlmart.com to look up the exact ingredients. I did. I was disappointed.
I looked at three different products. It was a bit more worrying, with the addition of Red 40, German Chamomile, and Peppermint. All three are not good for pregnant mamas, and Red 40 is definitely not good for young children. :-( Oh, well. I was really hoping I could experience their program. I shall look to another source of curl food. Off to the recipe posts I go. :love2: |
