Newbie and Extremely Frustrated

Hey I'm new here! I'm 17 years old and my hair type is something similar to 3a except it is extremely thick(there's a ton of it) and frizzy/poofy. I honestly feel like I've tried every product ever created. It's so frustrating. Recently, I've tried Ouidad. I got the cut, use the curl quencher shampoo/conditioner, and then use the Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel (using the rake/shake technique) The result is all right I suppose. I mean it really does give my hair a nice shine and frizz-free(for the most part) However, the process kills me. It takes me FOREVER to apply the gel and then it takes FOREVER to dry it (I obviously use a diffuser to help with the drying process but it's still annoying) Another thing I hate about it is that since it takes so long, I can't do it before school. Meaning, I have to do my hair at night. So when I wake up it looks bad anyways. Plus, how am I supposed to go swimming or camping? I'm young. I have a life to live but if I do my hair then I can't get it wet. And since it's such a long process I would never be able to do it when camping or if I'm staying at someone's house (I figure it's a bit rude to hog their bathroom) I'm just tired of my hair. I love the idea of curly hair but it seems like people don't understand how difficult it is. I just want to let it air dry and go. I just wish there was something convenient out there for my hair.

Any advice? Sorry I know that was a LONG rant!

I know how frustrating it can be, but hang in there! I have 3b hair and have tried almost every product out there. I am a wash, style, and go type of gal. I use DevaCurl products most of the time, but I don't diffuse because of my limited time in the mornings. I have had good results with that brand of products. For frizz control, I usually carry a small spray bottle with a mixture ( 1/2 conditioner and water) for smoothing the frizz. I use that stay for a quick touch up during the day or for second day hair.

I know exactly what you mean! My hair is type 2C and more wavy than curly, however, I have a hard time with it especially in the summer months! It seems like during cold weather months, my hair does fine. But heat and humidity do a number on my hair! I have found that when I am swimming,at the beach, or pretty much anything outdoors, keeping it pulled up is about the only way I can manage mine. I also have layers in my hair and always have my stylist thin it out at each appointment, and that really helps cut back on drying time and maintenance!
I completely understand this! For me, I've dropped using cones for the most part, minus Argan oil, and starting using V05 conditioner as my leave-in. I rarely have frizz and my hair is extremely thick. I also keep my hair up because I'm trying to grow. I'm not super active in the outdoors department, so I don't really have a big issue there, especially since I do keep my hair up 99% of the time. I also refuse to use mousse, gel, or a diffuser (takes too much time!) so I stick to rather cheap but effective products.

Maybe you're getting too much or too little protein? Or if you use cones that could be it, or more moisture also.

Sorry, I don't know what the Ouidad method entails because I have a Deva Cut and do more of the Curly Girl Handbook methods. Sounds strange that it would have to be some really long process!

also, I don't understand why you can't get your hair wet. I've found such new freedom going curly, as opposed to straightening like I did for most of my life, because now I can go swimming, in hot tubs, and out in the rain and not have to worry any more! Just re-apply some gel/cream and go.

It does take a long time for my hair to dry, especially when using my favorite AG Re:coil, but diffusing helps.

Hopefully, you find a more simple way of applying your products that works for you! Maybe watch the Jessicurl videos or the Deva Curl videos. and always feel free to rant, we all do from time to time..

Well, my hair is very thick. I have a ton of hair. and with Ouidad you take a small section at a time and you wet it, comb it, put a ton of gel on it, rake, and shake. The section that you do are pretty small. That is why it takes so long.
As for the reason I can't wet my hair - Let's say I put the Ouidad gel in my hair, as I do everyday. If I get into a pool, the gel gets washed out. Therefore, when I get out of the water, my hair will dry and frizz up.
I have considered Devachan, but I am always afraid that it won't work for me. I just found Jessicurl last night! It looks like it's really good!

Have you ever looked into different application techniques? Have you ever tried plopping, scrunching, etc? It shouldn't take that long to apply products.

Also, what do you mean by Devachan exactly? Their products or hair cuts? You don't need to be married to only one product line. Many people use several different brands that rotate everyday. I think most people here dislike Ouidad and Deva products.
Coarse texture, normal-high porosity, normal elasticity (Komaza Care), very weak waves
cleanser: Redken Fresh Curls Shampoo, CJ Daily Fix

rinse out: GVP Conditioning Balm, CJ Repair Me, CJ Smoothing

jellies/creams: CR Curl Maker, KCCC, UFD Curly Magic
gels: CJ CQ, BRHG

It sounds like the Ouidad isn't doing you any favors. Personally I've also had the Ouidad cut and tried the products, but you're exactly right. It takes FOREVER, the products are very expensive, and in my opinion totally isn't worth it.

I don't know if you've tried the curly girl method, but once you get the hang of it, it's really easy. It's just a matter of finding out what works for your hair and what doesn't. I found a routine that works great for me using inexpensive and easy to find products, even after dozens of products recommended on here.

I recommend reading the posts on here and experimenting a LOT. You'll totally find something that works for you.
3b I think

Current rotation: CJ Daily Fix Cleansing Condish, Suave Coconut, AOHR, CJCCCC, KKKT, KCCC
HGs: EcoStyler, Coconut oil, KY, ACV, BRHG, LOOB, Curl Rehab, Deva AnGel, GTTT Condish, CIAB!

I just found a local stylist that I like. No special type of cut. Like I said, I've tried the Ouidad cut and I've tried the Deva cut. Although I liked the Deva cut better, I really didn't think it justified the price. I'd recommend checking the stylists board on here to try to find someone. Good luck!!
