Reglar hair cuts in order to make hair grow faster?

I have heard that you are supposed to have you hair cut every 4 - 6 weeks. Although I'm not sure what the reasoning is. I figure hair salons made this up so that they can get steady business/money rolling in.

I have also heard that you should get your hair cut if you want to make your hair grow faster. This doesn't make much sense to me, since you are cutting your ends and hair grows out of you head, I don't see how the two are related.

I usually get my hair cut 3-4 times a year. I am currently trying to grow out a bad hair cut from June '06. My last haircut was in August '06. Wondering if I should go get a trim or resist the urge and wait for it to grow out more.

I don't think its necessary to get a haircut/trim that often either(4-6 weeks). To me, that's excessive. I think it really depends on if you need it and how you take care of your hair.
For example if you handle your hair a lot, heat style, brush, comb, color, use chemicals, harsh products, etc. Then obviously that all puts a bit of stress on the strands but if you take care of it, being gentle while handling it, keep it moisturized then you don't need to trim that often.

Personally, I am also growing my hair out and I get a trim once or twice a year. This is what works for me. My hair for the most part is in pretty good condition. So you should only trim when necessary.

It's not about having what you want, it's about Wanting what you have
If your hair isn't damaged or split, I would let it go a lot longer between cuts. When I grew out my hair, I think I was getting a tiny trim about every 3 months.
When they say that when you get your hair cut it helps it grow faster because cutting off split ends helps hair growth. However, if you dont have split ends, trims probably only makes the grow out longer.

ok my thereory is no haircuts do not make your hair grow faster, how can that be if your hair grows from the top of your scalp, not your ends.. It would make it look healthy cutting the ends I guess but it does not make your hair grow any faster.

Trims can't make your hair grow faster, they just make you more able to grow it longer b/c you trim the splits off early emough and they don't have time to split further up the hair shaft.
To make it grow faster, eating healthy, vitamins, and massaging your scalp seem to work! HTH!
