Obsessed...

Like Tree8Likes

I realized I am obsessed with my hair...
I look at it and mess with it a lot, and I am a PJ. I think about product a lot, too. I come on this website to help people with hair and just to talk about it in general. I also always gravitate towards the hair aisle in stores.

Am I OCD or just self-centered? I do have OCD tendencies, but I don't know...
Does anyone else feel this way? I just kinda feel guilty for being so into my hair.

Ha ha, you are definitely not alone in being hair obsessed! I realised just how much I was when I went on holiday a fortnight ago and felt ever so slightly tetchy at the thought of not being able to browse on nc.com, until I remembered that the hotel where we stayed had a computer/internet access. I was very happy to say the least (not that I spent the entire holiday browsing the 'net I hasten to add, I don't think my husband would've been too happy about that, lol!)

I am definitely a PJ as well. Even before I found this site I had a collection of hair products. Before me and my husband got married, he even made a comment on the many different products I had to put in my hair to make it work. Lol. Now that I've gone CG, I have started my new collection of hair products and I have a tendency to read the ingredients on the back of each product I pick up. :]

P.S. I had a dream last night about my hair and hair products. It was crazy! If only my hair looked that good in real life. Lol.

Like everyone else said, you are not alone!!!!! I've always been kind of OCD over my hair but since I went mod-CG last December, it's gotten a 1,000 times worse especially after cutting it shorter and trying to grow it back out. It's hard but I'm trying not to get too crazy about whether my hair looks "right" or not.....work in progress!!!

My hair is basically my hobby!!

When I'm tired or having a lousy day or don't want to take a break with a newspaper and get angry - NC.com!!! What can I say, my hair is a hobby. You don't think people spend as much time thinking about sports or fishing or quilting or whatever else they like to do? It's easy on the brain and rewarding. Nothing changes your look as much as your hairstyle. And you can change your hair more readily than your face or body or height or wardrobe.

Sometimes I feel like I'm thinking about it too much. Those are days when I'm too tired and my brain defaults to "fun stuff." Which is hair stuff! So it's also telling you how much self-discipline you have the energy to exert (to be not thinking about fun stuff and thinking about serious stuff instead).

We'll probably all reach a point when it's not at the front of our minds so often. NC.com is a community of sorts and that is very reinforcing. If you were doing it all alone or just reading about things - not interacting - it would be different and less rewarding.
You see, you've hit a nerve! Good post.

When I have a "new" interest, and right now learning about wearing my natural hair is a "new" interest, I always go into it head first and all the way. I read, I check labels, I buy new products, I learn. Then I get the hang of it, and I start to level off to a less intense involvement. I still learn, I still share, I just don't do it as intensely. Then when I feel confident, when I have found the products that work for me, I become less intense. The interest doesn't go away, I just reach a point where it is part of my life, not an overwhelming intense, majority of my life. I don't know about anyone else, but for me it takes about 6 months for the obsession to turn into just a part of my life. So I recognize the feeling you describe, right now I'm sharing it with you.

Nope, I am the same way! Ulta is my favorite store because I love their huge amount of hair stuff. And I look forward to their coupons in the paper every week. When I got to Target, the first place I go is always the hair care aisles. When I was young, I didn't really specify any gifts I really wanted for Christmas or my birthday, but I would ask my parents for expensive hair care products! I have always been obsessed! I don't think it's ever going to end!

I would definitely agree with IAgirl that I consider my hair is a hobby, and a fun one at that I don't think it's bad to learn as much as you can and pay lots of attention to your hair. It's fun to try different products, and see what works and what doesn't. I just love trying to make my hair look as good as possible, and learning more about my hair's likes and dislikes.

You are def not alone! I too am an admitted PJ and obsessed with my hair (and NC.com), but that's b/c it is FUN!! I love trying new things and thinking about what I can buy or try next. I agree, it's like a break from all the hectic chaos of work and life. Plus I am doing something nice for myself that is WAY cheaper than buying tons of shoes and bags (although I also sometimes partake in that....) and has a more dramatic impact on how I feel about my appearance. It's nice to now actually like my hair (most days) and I the people on this board make it fun too!

Ahh this is exactly how I feel! I've only been on the boards a few weeks but now I'm constantly thinking about my hair and how to make it better. New hobby, for sure! IDK about product junkie as I am on a budget... but definitely a junkie for this board, LOL!

What's a pj?? And im the same way if im not looking or playing with it im talking about it my bf used to get annoyed. But he's been growing out his beard and it's very thick like rick Ross (my bf is black) and now he asks me questions about how to maintain his and uses all my stuff now im annoyed :/ lol. We can't have too obsessed hair people in the same house lol..

*life is oh so lovely*
Tell me about it! Sometimes I think my hair is a person the amount of attention its gets! I know its porosity for gods sake! Its because most of use curries went through a time when we hated our hair and now that we embrace it, we dive in head first! Straighties usually dont have to worry about any of the stuff we go through. There definition of frizzy or thick is one side of my hair... lol. Ya so I guess once we find a way to FINALLY manage our hair, its hard not to get excited!

I've been obsessed since I have found this site. I talk about it at work a lot. One of my coworkers told me I had weird obsessions (I've been trying to be somewhat chemical free with cleaning, laundry soap, eating fresher/healthier. Not quite "green" or "vegan" but I did dive into this not too long ago as well).
