Default "Gelly" recs, please!

I should have added "inexpensive" to the title, too, even though I know most jelly products are more natural (and therefore more expensive). Basically, I've figured out that while my hair and I prefer just using one product in the summer (gel), we love layering products in the winter. I usually just keep it fairly simple -- sometimes I seal or use conditioner to SOTC or something like that -- but it's usually just a gelly-type product for curl enhancing and a gel on top (I've been using EcoStyler all winter and loving it). But, I haven't found a gelly that I'm totally and completely thrilled with. I've tried FSG (with anywhere from minimal to tons of additives and goodies), which seems to separate my clumps and make my hair stringy, induce frizz, and do nothing good for my hair in general. I have tried more times than I can count to make it a different way or make my hair agree with it, and I just can't get it to work for me, although I know SO many people who LOOOVEE it. I've also tried Aubrey Organics B5 Design gel, which I admit to limited experience with. I've only tried it a couple of times, but I'm really not fond of the smell, I think it makes me itchy, and the last time I used it, my hair took FOREVER to dry (on top of the insane drying time I already have ). I don't know if it was the long drying time or what, but my hair also looked very "weighed down" and heavy, and it was almost sticky to the touch while it was wet. I have tried it on 2nd day hair as a refresher, and while I had to use a ton of it after dampening my hair a bit, I had great 2nd day hair that day. But, still, I want something for 1st day hair. I've also tried Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel (KMFUM), and this is by far my favorite! I love it, and would totally re-purchase, but it seems to dry out my hair badly. Which stinks, because it's so lovely and grabby, thick and goopy, and so very curl-enhancing -- everything I'd like in a gelly.

So, those are the ones I HAVE tried. I would like recommendations for some fairly inexpensive, on-the-ground stuff that I can buy that would be like a curl-enhancing, maybe slightly moisturizing gelly product that I can layer under my gels. My hair properties are in my siggie, but in case you're on the CurlTalk app or something, I have medium/coarse, low porosity (and elasticity) hair that actually loves protein (and some moisture). The only one I can actually think of right now that has intrigued me is the Queen Helene Curl Shaping Cream (I think that's what it's called), but I'm sure there are many other gellie products out there that I'm just too brain-dead to think of. So, I need your recommendations, please! What do you ladies like? TIA!

I don't know if your hair will like it as much as mine, but my hair loves Kinky Curly Curling Custard. It's a little pricier (around $16), but it lasts a long time. You can check out some of the reviews of it in the product review section.

I'm getting more and more tempted to try KCCC.... I just wish they had a travel size I could try first!!

As for jellies - my hair adores FSG as an enhancer (using lots of additives for curl enhancement - mag sulf, aloe, corn starch, etc). BUT, I have really good results from mixing
it with GFPC gel, and a little KY!

If you want, you could always check the Target return policy, and if they'll let you return hair products if you try them and they don't work, you could always buy it and if you have terrible results, return t and get your money back.

(I put it over very wet hair - not quite dripping, but close to it - then scrunch away!)

Lol I was going to offer mailing you a sample of my KCCC for whatever postage would cost plus like $2-3, but I figured trying it out from Target and being able to get your money back if it doesn't work would be better, money-wise.

What good brands for fine hair does Whole Foods have? I don't usually visit mine, but I might have to if they have some great stuff.

I tried Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic - itchy. Anything AO I tried made me itch. Kathymack has several you can get as samples - the Botanical Spirits one looked interesting. I posted a pic of my hair with a mix of FSG + KMFUM and stronger-hold gel over it last week or so. That combo gave me big, loose spirals and the FSG mitigated the drying feel of the KMFUM.
I bet one could mix aloe vera gel with KMFUM for a similar, less-drying effect without losing the goodness that is KMFUM.

Jas, kathymack sells samples of KCCC. You could buy a couple to make it a big sample!

wavynwild, sorry I don't really have any inexpensive recs but really, most of my products last over a year! My fav right now is Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic which is definitely not cheap but is oh so effective! Maybe you should just get some samples from kathymack and then splurge!

You can buy from their website:

Uncle Funky's Daughter Natural Hair Houston | Curly Hair | Natural Hair Products - Uncle Funky's Daughter

or from one of the very few places on ground! I bought from their online store. People also occasionally will swap it as well.

I used to make my own FSG but got tired of making it. Then I discovered Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic Jelly. I LOVE it. It's my HG of hair gel. I use it every day. It's never made me itch and it seems to like my hair winter and summer.

You guys know not to tempt me with expensive products!! I have always really wanted to try KCCC -- but I never did. $17 for an 8 oz. tub?!?! It's crazy! Even with the great return policy, I'd have to keep buying and returning if I liked it, LOL!! I dunno...the UFD looks tempting, too....

On the bright side, I tried my KMFUM with a teeny little bit of GFTN smoothed onto my sopping wet hair as a LI, and it actually worked very well!! Maybe I won't have to switch gellies around after all. Thank you for all the suggestions, though!! Sadly, I'd really like to keep it under $12 or so.

Would you be open to expensive products if they would last 3-6 months or even then would it still be hard for you to justify it? Because KCCC has lasted me at least 3 months (that includes rotating products of course) and I have a little over 25% left.

What does AO mandarin magic jelly smell like? I don't really like a lot of the really "organicy" smell. Does it actually smell like mandarins?
