Default Preserving curls through a dance class?

I take showers every morning and by 2nd period (when I have my dance class), my hair is still damp. We are required to pull our hair back for the class and there is a lot of moving around going on, so my hair always ends up drying extremely crazy. I lose curl formation from putting my wet hair in a ponytail. Any suggestions on something I could do to prevent this?
If it helps, I have coarse, thick 2c/3a hair

Why don't you try a bun instead? Don't use a hair band - try some spin pins! Just twist it all up and spin pin in place.

Still not great for your curls, but better than a tight pony would be.

You could also try a claw hair clamp, and see how that does!

The other might be to try showering at night or after school when possible, or diffusing some in the morning so it has a chance to dry before 2nd period.

We curly dancers always have it rough, don't we??

Agreed! I usually don't wash on dance days. My first class, Modern, is at 8:40 in the morning followed by ballet where I have to get ALL my hair off my face & neck. Even if I diffuse I still would have to get up super early to have it dry... just to pull it all back later. I just refresh a bit, pin back the front then pin the rest up between classes.
