Scared: Going to cut off all my hair Sat!

Like Tree9Likes

I have 3a or 3b hair but I'm going to try the equivalent of a TWA. I really damaged my hair this winter by straightening it and it is a hot mess.

The curls are a mess and when I put rollers in it, it's a worse mess.

It has to go - bye hair! Eeek! I'm going to a new stylist - Christin at Takamichi - she gets great reviews. I'll post in the salon section and maybe someone will shoot me some encouragement. The thing is: my face is long so very short hair doesn't usually suit me, but I've never worn "curls" very short. I always tried to straighten it when it was short. Here goes....

- plopping, diffusing, and clipping the roots
Thanks Wavywild and Lucky! I'm skeered ! My hair is not that long now - between chin and shoulder but a very short cut is always scary. I'm afraid I'll look like a skull and not in a good way.

Hope I can figure out how to post pics. I'll let you know. Glad you both chimed in.

Good luck with it. I often think I'd like to go shorter but I'm just too scared, I've never had properly short hair and can't imagine it (like you I've got quite a long face). I'm sure you'll be fine.

Good luck curlypearl! If your hair is badly damaged, you are doing the best thing having a BC.
I'm sure once you see your healthy hair, you won't look back!

Best wishes.

Hi Starmie - I hope you're right and that it looks OK. I'm really nervous. How do you wear your hair now?

Thanks, Lucky Charm. I'll try to post pics, I promise.

Hippiechic - you're right. It's easy to get stuck in a rut - I need to have courage!

Agree with you ProudCurly. Damaged hair is hopeless - this is the only way to go!

Gretchen thanks! I wish my hair looked like yours.

Currycurls - thanks for the encouragement! your name reminds me of my favorite food - I love Indian cooking.

I appreciate all the encouragement!

If you've never worn curls very short before, you might be surprised how much you like your cut. I wore my hair super short for several years but always blow-dried it straight. I'm trying to grow APL hair now actually, but if I were to ever go short again, I can only imagine wearing it curly.

Good luck! Post pics.

Shrinkster - go for it! I actually have often wished for type 4A hair so I could do a TWA. But my hair is more 3b - so I can do the TW part but not the A part.

Devushka, thanks! I'm going for the cut in about an hour. I'm going to take courage from your post. I wore my hair extremely short before - but always straight and it looked too severe. The curls might just do the trick. The great thing about hair - it always grows back.

I did the same thing two days ago. I have been going to the same senior stylist at Devachan for five years. I always have had a lot to say about what I want (and don't want) in a cut. This time I said, "If you were to do whatever you want with my hair, what would it be?" Stylist answered, "Let me go ahead and show you."
Result: my hair is short in back and slightly longer in the front, creating a nice, edgy angle. The curls look fab. The shorter length has given them new bounce and new life. While he used (and I bought) the new Devachan Curl Cream, the stylist recommended the ultimate hair gel: KY jelly!

Anyhow, do post pictures.
