I don't know what to do anymore:(

I've been on this curly journey for about 1 year now and i can't find anything that satisfies my hair. I'm a 3c and my hair is completely dry. I'm clueless about which products to buy and exactly how to take care of it. My hair is in really bad shape. Can you guys give me a few tips?

Thank You
Besides determining your curl pattern, have you determined you hair properties (texture, porosity, elasticity, and density)? Knowing those helps immensely with choosing hair products and routines that work for your hair. But even with that, taking note of how my hair is behaving with different products and in different situations helped me. Early on after going naturally curly I started keeping a hair diary (hair products used, ingredients in products, routines tried, dew points, what kind of a hair day I'm having [i.e. good, bad, so-so], how many days in between washes, etc.) and that really helped me zero in on what was working and what wasn't, especially on what ingredients in products my hair did/didn't like and what routines work/didn't work. It helped me know if I should try big changes from what I was doing or just tweak certain aspects.

I know that you've been at this for a year, but if you're still having this much trouble, perhaps it would help to read the hair education section at Live Curly Live Free - Home. I found it pretty clear and concise and very helpful.

Keeping a hair diary - I actually made a spread sheet - is a handy tool. I put everything I used on each day, the weather and the results. I didn't have to keep it up forever. Once I got things that worked for me, I stopped.

Are you using products that are drying on your hair or are you shampooing too often? When I was unhappy with my hair it was because I wasn't layering my products. I expected to find one product that would do it all. For me, layering products is essential. Leave-in, curl enhancer, light to medium hold gel, serum type product plop and diffuse is my basic routine. If my hair isn't responding I will scrunch in some more curl enhancer after I've diffused for a couple of minutes and continue diffusing.

For cleansers and conditioners I stick to more natural lines. They aren't cheap but my hair thanks me for it. I also don't use sulfates, silicones or mineral oil on my hair.

Look for people with similar hair types an see what they use and recommend. I found that helped me tremendously.

Good luck.

Type: 3a fine & dense, with normal porosity, terrible product junkie
ROUTINE: LI, enhancer, gel, plop with Curlease towel, serum product (either CIAB or Gel-les'c), clip & diffuse.
Too many favourite products to list ... I finally have my routine that works and alot of products to choose from. My product stash is huge, but well loved !!!
i second the hair diary idea, i did that as well, and used it in a blog..... have you thought about that you may be protein sensitive? if my is is really dry i sometimes think that some sort of protein slipped into my routine. I was still having trouble so i stopped using products al together and was just using nautral things, now i only really use oils and a natural condish.

my hair: 3c, high porosity, high density and coarse hair (i think i finally figured that all out)
my hair loves conditioner only styling!
my hair goal length is bra strap length when curly.

I also blog about my hair journey, please feel free to read and comment/ask questions http://www.naturallycurly.com/blogs/...air-blogs/2494
