FSG + Eco Styler = straw-like hair

So I decided to try mixing my fsg with Eco styler in a little container to make my fsg thicker. When I put it on, my hair immediately felt squeaky and like straw. Is this what too much protein feels like? I've never had problems with either one of these items independently, but could there be an interaction between the gelatin in the fsg and the wheat protein in the Eco?
You mean it felt like that even after you SOTC-ed?

If my hair feels straw-like, I always immediately check ingredient lists for proteins. Not sure what's going on in your situation where you took two products that work fine for you separately but backfired when you mixed them. Could be a protein overload. (I don't make my FSG with gelatin, so IDK.)

You have gelatin in your FSG, then Ecostyler...
I have a horrible picture somewhere of my hair with a mix of FSG and Ecostyler (no gelatin. It looks like it's coated with dried-on frosting and pretty much felt that way too. I know some people can have that combo look good. Not I.
Formulating products takes a lot of trial and error and chemistry finesse and you mixed some things which probably don't mix well. Lots of products have "solubilizers" and stabilizers to keep ingredients from separating or precipitating. I wouldn't even be sure it's just the gelatin freaking out in the mix - but it could be.
Might work if you "layered" them. Or used FSG without the gelatin. Some people have better luck with Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee over FSG because it's a rather different gel than Ecostyler.

Generally my hair loves protein, so that's why this is so surprising. I've layered fsg and eco in the past with no problem. I've even used the generic k-pak followed by layering those two, although I'm not sure if the fsg had gelatin or protein filler or what. Now I'm curious if it's a mixing issue and will have to try mixing some plain fsg w/ eco and see what happens.

Yep, love BRHG and it's the final step almost every day.

I rinsed it all out and reconditioned, so I don't know how it would have dried. It doesn't feel great, but it's still a bit wet, so we'll see.

So, back to the drawing board in my attempt to streamline my hair routine.
If you can get your hands on some Neutral Protein Filler and put that in your FSG (1/2 to 3/4 teaspoon per cup) it should play much better with other gels than gelatin does. I never have a problem with the NPF used that way.

I just made some okra gel with BRHG in it tonight. I have a test strand drying on my head as I type this. I hope it turns out alright.
