What do you do when summer comes around?
Hey everyone, so summer is coming around and of course my hair is starting to become poofy and uncontrollable( more than usual) so I wanted to know what you guys do? Do you cut out a certain ingredient, use lighter conditioner or add an extra product? Or do you increase the amount of a product or use a pt more frequently? Thanks

I can't speak for others but I can tell you that my routine does change a bit when summer or winter comes around.
During the summer there are two things I change(in a way) and that's my gel and conditioner. My hair responds better to my FSG when it's more on the watery side in the summer and forget about leaving conditioner in! After I let my conditioner sit in my hair awhile I have to almost completely rinse it out. If I don't, my hair gets very frizzy. In the winter, I don't rinse out my conditioner at all.
I also noticed that I need to use more gel in the summer. I don't have to use as much in the colder months.
I use all of the same products all year round. I just have to alter things a bit to accommodate the changing weather.
Ignore the typos.

i cant wait for summer!! my hair seems to love the sun and naturally drying seems to forms my curls really nicely. i've missed being able to leave it to just dry as it is. i love it when my hairs nice and big and full.

I agree with Calypso. I use lighter products and need more gel. My hair also responds well to glycerin all year but I make sure to use it more liberally in the summer. It's been great for frizz control in the humid weather. I love using KY jelly, LOOB or adding glycerin to my homemade FSG.

More gel (like BRHG), more PTs and DTs since I have more time and more humectants, especially glycerin.

I've just recently started adding KY Jelly(a generic form) to my FSG! Since I no longer use a poo or condish that has glycerin in it, adding it to my gel really helps tame frizz.
It's funny though. My hair loves summer yet I despise it. I love winter, mainly autumn and my hair doesn't care much for it. Go figure.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet... probably just stick with my usual, haha. Maybe a bit more product to keep the frizzies away, but my hair is pretty resistant to humidity. I'm going to stick with my SM Curl Milk.

It's always summer in Barbados and I tend to favour A LOT of hard hold gels, light conditioners and glycerin to keep away the frizzies.

I know that in the dead humidity of August it won't work so well, but I found a very glycerin-heavy product (KMS Curls Up Curling Balm) and I used that today before my normal styling products. I haven't been able to stop looking at my hair all day today

I usually keep a similar routine, but I add more humectants. I'll add honey to my DT's, and EVOO, too. I'll also add KY to my FSG to help battle te frizzies.

Calypso,
You may have saved my life. Two years I've been CG and now this summer I'm frizzing... driving me crazy. I've been leaving in MORE conditioner... More frizz. I will rinse it out totally and see. Thanks so much for posting.

I always thought higher dews meant avoid humectants like glycerin... but maybe for some higher dews are normal dews elsewhere which is good for humectants...
Living in south Florida, I avoid glycerin during the summer for less frizz...

Calypso, how much KY (generic) do you use in your fsg? I'd like to try this.
