Think I'm going to switch to a nightly washer: update

Washing in the A.M is such a downer for me. First it takes my hair roughly 5hrs to completely dry and I hate having wet hair. Second, I don't like going anywhere with wet hair. It's just not in good taste to me. Third, I hate my hair when it's wet. It's flat and super shiny (in a bad way.) Last night I did a protein/deep treatment and just for the heck of it i styled my hair afterwards. This was around 6:30pm. Around 10:30pm it wasn't dry but I was tired of having it down so I loosely braided it in two braids and then tied it back for the night. I woke up, undid the braids and decided to just touch up the frizzy pieces with gel and then diffuse for about 5min (it was still a bit damp) After about an hr my hair was completely dry. I added a creme and fluffed it out...it looked the same as when I do it in the morning. Going to test this for the next few days and if I get consistent results this is going to be my new routine. I hope it works because I just not a morning person anyway

I'm with you. Washing my hair at night is so much easier (plus I like going to bed clean lol).

I put all my products in and then plop my hair up in a tshirt turban overnight. In the morning I usually still have damp hair so i may add a bit more FSG and diffuse.

So much faster and I can sleep in
Finally have a routine that works

Low Poo - 2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra-Moist Shampoo
Co-Wash - V05 Passion Fruit Smoothie Conditioner
RO - Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, Cure Care, GVPCB
LI - KCNT
Stylers - GF Pure Clean Gel, BTZ Noodle Head, LA Looks Sports Gel, Eco Styler Krystal, KCCC (I am a product junkie )

Wash at night, add products, plop in a t-shirt overnight, then diffuse in the morning!! It is great finally getting to sleep in
sleeping in...my cup of tea. I actually get up around 7am but for me to get up, 'do' my hair and leave the house with fairly dry hair I would need to get up around 5am. That's not going to happen. EVER! I was getting so down about my hair lately. i HATED the fact that I 'had' to wait hours for my hair to look nice. I really hope this works out

I wash at night. Pineapple slightly damp. Take down, shake, spritz and diffuse in the morning. Works great!
I tried this for the first time last night. I got a haircut yesterday and had those tiny hairs all over so I decided to wash. I put all my styling products in and actually clipped the top with octopus clips which was a first also. I defused the bottom then put it all in a satin bonnet. I didn't pineapple bc the topped was clipped. This morning I used a little bit of SM smoothie and avocado oil and water spritz and my results were amazing. It was better than I've had in a very long time. I spent all day outside at kids softball games but plan to try again tomorrow before work. I have been trying to figure out a way to be a night washer for many years but have never been able to get it to work for me. I've always had to get up at least 2.5 hors before I've had to leave the house and I am not a morning person. Ask my kids. Lol

I am not a morning girl ether! I usually wake up at six forty every morning for school (Leave at seven fifteen) and I do NOT like waking up before seven and I don't want to wake up any earlier for a shower! So right before I go to sleep, I take a shower and put in all the products in as I normally do and them plop with a long sleeved t shirt and go to sleep! When I wake up my hair is slightly damp, but it is better then having frozen hair by the time I get to school! I just add some gel and then I do everything else. Then right before I leave I SOTC. This helps with my (flat top" problem and get tons of volume (a big plus)
Day 2 is nice! My hair was for the most part dry after about an hour of taking the braids down. After 3hrs I scrunched out the crunch and my hair is actually curlier than when I wash it in the morning. This is definitely a keeper. I honestly don't see myself washing my hair in the morning anymore. This is so much better.

I'm intrigued....I've always wondered how to go about washing at night and yet still getting great results in the morning. I'm wondering this now more than ever since I'm trying to get a traditional job, and I don't want to wake up hours beforehand to have dry hair (or wear it wet, I hate that too). Do you ladies who plop with a t-shirt at night find that you end up losing most of the product to the shirt, or is that not really a problem? I'd hate to think I had to apply 2x or more my usual amount of product just to be a night washer and plop at night.....
I don't plop. It never worked for me. I just let my hair air dry for about 3hrs or so and then i loosely braid it in two braids (one on each side of my head) then I pull those back with a ponytail holder and put on my satin cap. I don't let it dry completely because I need it to be damp in the morning so I can fix it.

I plop, but really haven't thought about it. I don't think I'm losing much product though.

Forgot to mention ... I think I still use the same amount of product as before. Although I sometimes add a little extra FSG in the morning (just depends on how my waves/curls look

I've been showering in the morning since last summer because now my classes start at 1pm, so I have lots of time to dry.
But.
I just watched a video someone posted in the Growing Out section of this mixed youtuber who has about belly button length hair, and she washes at night, puts her hair in 4 braids with some LI, then has great waves in the morning.

Perhaps it's something those who want to wash at night could try?

I think braiding only works well in keeping the natural curl if the person has wavy or s-curls. It would change the pattern of someone with corkscrew or really kinky curls. If the person isn't interested in preserving their natural curl then it doesn't matter. Personally I care. I only like my natural curl unless I'm going for a particular style

Me too, I don't like to sleep in braids or anything like that because I like to wear my natural curl pattern. I don't even style my hair often because I love the natural pattern so much, and styling alters it--excpet with hair sticks, my new fave thing . Next morning engagement I have, I'll experiment the night before with washing, see what happens (wish me luck! lol)
I wash and style my hair at night. I co-wash, condition my hair, add some leave-in, and then scrunch in my sports gel. I use my Curls Like Us towels to dry them, then do the other nightly things before heading off to bed. I sleep with a 100% silk pillowcase, so you should look into that. In the morning it looks very nice.

I am not a morning person either. UGH!

I didn't want to start a new thread but here's an update: I've been night washing for about a week now and i'm getting consistent results. Only thing I have to watch out for is not scrunching it too early and not putting too much product in the morning or else it will look greasy.

I cut out my curl cream and my denman brush last night (which took off about 5+ min in styling) and it looks exactly the same. winning! Going to try this new routine and if it keeps working out then I will only be using conditioner and gel. Can't ask for anything better right? This is soo nice! I get up and within 2hrs of waking up I have dry hair. This is definitely my new routine.

Wow . . . I thought I was the only one who did this!

I get my BEST and longest lasting hair when I wash it at night. I have low porosity hair, so it takes forever to dry--and night washes saved my sanity when I had to be at work at 6am. Now I work a later shift, but I still prefer the ease of waking up with "perfect" (aka uncrushed, almost dry) hair.

My routine:
1. Wash/condition
2. Add gel & comb through with wide-tooth comb & denman
3. Scrunch with Curls Like Us Curl Cloth (really shortens the drying time)
4. Diffuse until 70-80% dry (abt 20 minutes)
5. Clip roots
6. Plop into flour sack towel

I usually do this right before I go to bed, so there's not much drying time other than what I spend diffusing (I have to diffuse or I will wake up with sopping wet hair in the morning--despite sleeping with it in a towel). Yes, I do sleep with it plopped.

In the morning my hair is still damp, but I get lots of root volume (from the clipping), and maintain the ringlet structure of the curl (from the plopping). When I night wash, I often find I can get 3 days of "good" hair out of the deal.

Funny aside: It's fun to watch my coworkers peel their jaws off the floor when they find out I wash my hair at night and "wake up" with it looking like it does.
Hair type: Fine, thick/dense, low porosity 3AŚwith 3B mixed in.

My hair hates protein & LOVES honey!
