What does grabby, knotted hair need?
After suffering a lot with my hair (frizz, no definition, dryness, bad haircuts,...etc) for over two years, I have stopped being a natural curly only a month ago and started straightening my hair again. I'm gonna try my luck again with straight hair since I had no problem with doing so years ago and I just quit straightening it because I fancied my curls more.
However, my hair is still suffering. It feels super dry, knots everywhere, grabby (so it ends up being torn on random objects, ouch! ),...etc.
So right now I have no idea what does my hair need?
Is it more moisture, more protein or what? Is there a way or a method to know what the hair needs, cause I don't want to mess it up more than it already is.
I also wanted to add that my hair has been very weak, falling out and breaking all the time for a year or so now.
Thanks in advance :)
Your hair is probably in need of a good moisturizing condiitioner like GVP Conditioning Balm. Also if your going to continue straightening your hair you should use a heat protectant to minimize the damage. You should also do a weekly deep treatment and maybe even a protein treatment of your hair likes it
Yeah, it sure sounds like your moisture-protein balance is way off if your hair is breaking off like that. How does your hair feel when it's wet? Is it "mushy"? I've never actually had mushy hair, but I read up a little about it when I wanted to understand what the heck the term referred to. Mushy hair indicates over-moisturizing and you then need to have protein treatments to counteract that. Does your hair feel really "hard"? Protein treatments in that case would only make it harder and break off more. Getting that balance back would hopefully help a lot with what you're experiencing.
I agree with the suggestion about using a heat protectant if you're going to straighten your hair with a flatiron. I used to flatiron my hair and never even thought about using a heat protectant. No idea what I was thinking.
