Default Question about silicones

I have been cg for a little over a month now and my hair is alot more moisturized, looks better and feels softer, but im still dealing with broken strands that stick out. My hair is very fine and ended up with damage from ironing and dyes.
IM going on a trip this week and i have this idea that maybe using a deep conditioner masque called Enjoy with amodimethicone as the only silicone and keratin as one of the active ingredients might be able to temporarily smooth down some of these strands.. I already use a cleansing conditoner or a lo poo on sort of a weekly basis.

So my question is, How long does it take for a silicone product so start blocking out moisture? Can i wait a couple of days before washing again or will i have to wash the next day?

Does anyone use conditioner with amodimethicone and can know how it affects there hair?

Amodimethicone is slightly different from other silicones. It does require sulfates or coco betaine to remove, but it doesn't build up the way other cones do. It repels itself, so it will theoretically only remain as a single layer. Some curlies use a-cone occasionally with no problem.

I love me my Amodimethicone!!

I use a RO with it 2-3 times a week and occaisionally a leave in with it. I CO wash everyday and clarify once a week and have never had buildup issues.

Thank you guys for the quick responses Corrina you have been sup-peer helpful

Im happy to find out that it wont cause buildup! this gives me some more choices with hair products, but i would probably still only like to use it for certain occasions like camping trips where i can wash my hair for two days..second day is a challenge for me.

Lisa can you tell me what you notice in your hair from using amodimethicone products?

Sure!
I find it far easier to detangle, more shine, less color fade, less frizz (it almost has a light hold factor in a leave-in). Also if I put oils in my hair, then a leave-in with amodimethicone, I get great definition, moisure and somehow not so oily-looking. My two go-to amodimethicone products are L'Oreal Professionals Mega Moisture condish (RO) and Mixed Silk Conditioning Leave-in Cream, both from Sally's.

I find I don't even need gel anymore.

I'm intrigued, I admit it.

Corrina - does the SM Moisture Retention remove cones? I looked at the ingredient list but my untrained eye can't spot anything either way. I have some and I know it lathers but don't know which ingredient causes that.

I'm intrigued as well. I had read good things about the mixed silk LI but was concerned about the amodimethicone. I've been completely silicone free for about 3 months, but I'm still looking for something to help with a little more curl definition and shine that won't weigh down my fine hair - after reading this, I may give it a try. I was wondering though, do you live in a dry or humid climate?

My favorite brands are Kinky Curly, As I am, Curly Kinks, Curl Junkie, and Darcy's Botanicals. Also love sealing with oils (loving argan oil right now) and styling with jelly products (KCCC is my current favorite). Mostly trying to keep it simple!

SM Moisture Retention will not remove cones. I read a thread several weeks ago about the lathering and it's due to one if the plant derived ingredients. If you're looking for something gentle that will remove cones, my two suggestions are Renpure Organics or the Curls Curl Cleansing cream. These contain coco betaine, which will remove cones.

Dry in winter/semi-humid in summer. Northeast, North America.

Was your "winter" as strange as mine here in New York? The dews seem to be all over the place. I was hoping for some nice normal dews with the temp going up again, but today is still only at 25 (with temp at 62).

I spent 4 years at SU (I knew they were gonna choke during the tournament!). I'm down in the Hudson Valley area now. Sorry- didn't mean to hijack the thread!
