THUD! Falling off the CG wagon, need some help to minimize injuries!!
After a year of CG and lots of trial and error, I think I've decided I can't go another summer without Curls Rock Amplifier, my pre-CG HG. Nothing else does it for me, even Mop-c which is close but doesn't have the slip and frizz control. I have learned so much from everyone here and I don't want to throw it all away, rather just gracefully slip in a little cones and try to minimize any dryness that could result. I will use a leave in and my trusty Argan oil underneath, and 2 pumps of Curls Rock for my super thick 3a/b, and that's it!
What I need help with is, what's the gentlest poo I can get away with for the dimethicone? I cover my greys with auburn so can't use Giovanni TT (tea tree strips color). I'm hoping I can continue to co-wash during the week and just poo or low poo once a week. I could really use some input and suggestions please! Thanks everyone!
On my iPhone. Excuse typos.

I think the only cone in there is cyclomethicone...Anything with cocobetaine would remove it!

SegB is right- the dimethicone is water soluble, only the cyclomethicone is an issue. A few (more gentle) low-poos that can remove cones are Renpure Organics (red bottle, or their new keratin or argan oil low-poos). Giovanni also has a couple of milder low-poos- 50/50 and Smooth as Silk.

Awesome, thanks! I have struggled with this for so long, I was really committed to cg and it's funny how letting cones back in feels like failure. But really, if the gentle low poos can remove it, then it's not nearly as bad as I thought. I haven't found Renpure here (Canada) but Giovanni is easy to find. So now I'll be a happy mod-cg instead! I'm hoping if I concentrate on weekly DT's and moisturize under it then I should be good.

I've been modified CG for a while, ever since I got hooked on weekly sulfate shampoos. Your hair will tell you if it's unhappy, but as long as it looks and feels good, that's what really counts.

It's funny I love some parts of being cg. I could be very happy co-washing forever. But after a year I still don't have a consistent styling routine and I just don't have the time anymore to spend so much energy worrying about my hair! Pre-cg I would use leave in and Curls Rock and never have to think about it.
Just picked up a bottle and you're right, it's cyclomethicone. Wonder if there's a conditioner with coco betaine that would be enough to get the cone out by co-washing?

The Curls line has a cleansing conditioner that does contain coco betaine.

Thanks, I'll pick some up next time I'm in the States. In the meantime I picked up some Giovanni 50:50 shampoo to try once/week, and see if I can get away with co-washing the rest of the time.

curlyloxnv, I'm right there with you
I'm not going through another summer with the same amount of frizz that I had last summer! I'm picking up some Curls Rock Amplifier today!
I'm glad I've learned about CG and found out about some really great CG products on here. But it's turning into more anxiety for me than having fun and enjoying my hair. I'm getting to the point where I don't look forward to washing my hair because I never know how it's going to turn out.
Co-washing never worked for me and I'm not loving the itchy scalp I'm getting from low-pooing (Elucence, Giovanni, Devacurl, CJ Daily Fix, I've tried so many now). If I need sulfates anyways, I might as well enjoy the benefits of using some cones to help with my frizz.
Like anything else, it's ok that PURE CG doesn't work for everyone.

If you need to use sulfates, have you tried CHS Treatment Shampoo? I find it leaves my hair much softer than most of the low-poos I've tried.

Thanks Corrina, I've been trying to get a sample of it on the swap board, but no luck. I've heard great things about it so I might have to just order some online.

I normally order from aveyou.com because they always have 20% off coupon codes floating around.

Sheilacurl, I think there are lots of us who try cg and then modify it. I mean why not use a much loved product that works even with a bit of cones and still do all the other cg things to keep hair healthy (like LI, sealing, weekly DT). It's so easy to become black and white about cg but I think there are a lot of grey areas and if it works, then we should embrace it!

I was just thinking about this- I know there was a poll about creating a modified CG forum, but I think the thoughts were very mixed. I've considered at least starting a thread.

Hi Corrina,
I've found an old thread about going non-cg this summer, not a poll though:
Going Non-CG This Summer? Product Recs
I was hoping my comment would bump it to the top and get more replies but no one has commented yet. I almost feel shunned from the cg community, lol.
Oops, I just reread your post and you said modified cg forum, not thread, that's a great idea!

I have a sample of the Curls Rock Amplifier that I've been wanting to try. Those of you who use this & get great results, how do you apply? Soaking wet hair? Just damp/towel-dried hair? After applying do you air dry or diffuser dry? I want to make the best use of my sample to determine if it's worth purchasing.
Thanks!

I apply everything to sopping wet hair then scrunch out extra water with a microfiber towel. So far I've only used the Curls Rock Amplifier when I was planning to diffuse my hair.

I like to use either Bonner's Liquid Soap, but my favorite low-poo is Nourish Shampoo sold at Trader Joe's.
I have recently gone modified because my hair loves the Suave Almond and Shea butter conditioner.
I do agree that the bottom line is let your hair dictate your products. So what if the products are organic but your hair looks like crap!
I believe the key is conditioning and listening to what your hair likes.

Am I the only curly who likes Avalon shampoos? they seem really gentle to me, no sulfates. And I shampoo every day.
