Default Curly going away with Length

Hello my dear Curlies,

I apologize for the long thread message. But I need some help!!!!

So I am an Indian, been CG for about 2 years now. I have been mostly learning from the existing threads and search here. When my hair was short a year and half ago, and scruching up, I would get good curly formation like ringlets even in the back of my head. Now it has grown past BSL and the curls would not form anymore with scrunch, its more wavy, I can see that the curls on top are getting weighed down although I like my length.

Now there is an alternative I have found, Not sure if this makes me CG?

I section my hair briefly in big chunks and if I finger twist or skip curl without the skip, it takes me 5minutes to do that by the way, am I destroying the curls? it clumps up really nice that way and no frizz and hair is more curly+ volume on top

Here I am posting some pictures of the 2 ways.
1st one scruch,2nd one finger twist in chunks,3rd when my hair was short

My routine:
Co-wash:deva no-poo/Tresseme Naturals/Suave Cocunut
Detangle:Tresseme Naturals/Suave Cocunut
Leave-in: deva One condition/KCKT/Shea Moisture
Serum-sometimes:CHS Curl Keeper
Gel: deva Angel/LA sports
Plop: Old T-shirt for 15 minutes and airdry-my hair hates diffusers

Gorgeous hair!

For your curl type, losing curl with length isn't uncommon. Most curlies will have to choose a point on the curl/length continuum where they can be happy with both.

Thank you redcelticcurls for such a quick response.I am planning for a trip back to my home country, and I want to show my folks my long curly hair, after which I can take off some length In the meantime I have heard that since you finger twist curls it is like destroying the nature of the curls? Is that true?? I dont see any split ends or anything and I do the finger twist in really really wet hair while still in the shower, after leave-in.

I think the finger twists should be ok.

I have heard of others using twirling to bring out their curl, so I don't think it should be damaging...oh, and can I say that I love your hair?

Your hair is gorgeous, and the pic where you twirled - beautiful. I've never heard of twirling being damaging to hair, and I've had several stylists recommend it. I don't see how it could be any worse than a 2-strand twist or other styles of that nature. You already said you only do this to wet hair, so I say if its giving you such good results, stick with it.

Your picture is so pretty, I think I'll try twirling!

You're safe on the CG spectrum with that

And gosh, I love your hair!

Your hair is sooo pretty (and so are you). Finger twists is totally fine for your hair... Should not be at all damaging unless you are somehow being abnormally rough.

Beautiful hair!! It's really lovely. i've never tried finger twirling, but you're inspiring me And by the way, my hair has grown, my curl pattern has lessened a bit too.

Beautiful hair!

Are you using the SM Smoothie? I had the same problem...3B hair when it was shorter and now my hair is about the same as yours and it's more 3A. I made a post about this and someone suggests trying the SM Smoothie. Since using the Smoothie I'm definitely getting more ringlet definition. Best of luck and hope you find something that works for you. And again your hair us gorgeous!

Thank you all!! @ness223 are you talking about Shea Moisture Smoothie? Do you know if we can find it at target? The only reason I have to twirl is because I cant scrunch too much to get the pattern, and eventually causes frizz and no definition no matter how wet my hair is.

Yes the Smoothie. I was able to find it at target for about 9$. I know some Walgreens also carry the line. It has made a huge difference in my hair. It doesn't have much hold but it really enhances my curls. I use a little LA looks on top or GF Pure clean gel (3$) that has been giving me great results lately.
