[Help!] Fluffy, Puffy Curly Hair

So I have an event coming up and I want to look presentable instead of tying my hair into a bun all the time.

My type of hair is between 3a and 3b. I have this puffy and fluffy curly hair that frizzes most of the time. Literally no hair products can aid my kind of hair to be honest. So I am thinking of chemically re-structuring my hair.

Should I perm my already curly hair or should I straighten it? Which will be the better option?
What products have you tried? Do you ever use gel? The hold can help tame poofy hair. Oh, also, have you tried going CG? I thought my hair was unmanageable as well and continually considered Keratin treatments, but it turns out all I needed was more moisture from co-washing, deep treatments and such. Your hair is beautiful I'm sure, maybe try giving it some TLC before you go the chemical route?

Welcome, Dippity-doo! I agree with both posters above. My hair was terribly frizzy and unmanageable until I learned how to take care of it. Learning about my hair properties helped me to find the right products. I rarely deal with frizz anymore. Deep treatments for moisture, gels for texture and hold. Made a huge difference for me.

Any curly-head has the potential to turn their curls around! Don't worry, there IS something you can do. I always thought I had the most unruly hair, but after learning more about it I've come to love it.

Could you upload a picture of your hair?

Hang around, read what you can, and start with the basics: deep moisture treatments, a good conditioner, and a nice gel (gel will become you're best friend :])

The thing is, not only my hair is poofy and frizzy, it also doesn't have a definite curl. Once it goes puffy, no more curls cause all you see is a bunch of frizzy "cotton candy" on top of my head. That is what upsets me the most.

So I was planning to do a perm to create a more defined and beautiful curl. :\
