Default Saw A New DevaCurl Product in Ulta

Hello Curlies,

I was in Ulta yesterday picking up a few things and I saw that the DevaCurl line has released a hairspray. I initially got very excited as I have been looking for an alcohol free hair spray for years (a product I am now fairly sure doesn't exist). But my hopes were dashed when I read the ingredients list and saw that even Miss Massey and her team of curl experts were not able to avoid this drying ingredient . Anywhoo, have any of you tried this hairspray yet? And while we are on the topic have any of you had long term success w/ hairsprays despite the fact that they contain alcohol?

If I am not mistaken, this is the product that my Deva stylist finished my hair with; she said it was a wax spray, and before I could say "NOOO!!" she sprayed me like a paint job. I HATED it. I have no idea how she styled my hair after that, because my hair was so coated I felt like a candle. That is one reason I am having a different Deva stylist next time. I dont know if it is the same product, but if it is I cannot imagine anyone liking it - unless she wanted to glue her hair in place.

lol, thanks for the reply. I bet it was the same product; was it in a tall, thin, green can? I am not surprised to hear that it was a bit much. I have not found a hair spray that is alcohol free but I have seen several that have alcohol lower on the list. If I remember correctly, alcohol is the first ingredient in the DevaCurl Hairspray. I have been very pleased with the Deva line but I will not be giving that a try.

If it was a wax product they used on your hair Myrna, I bet it was Set It Free.

I've heard some curlies on here say that some alcohols are not drying (or not as drying?) to hair, but I don't know which ones.

This hairspray has alcohol very low on the ingredients list
Giovanni L.A. Hold Hair Spritz -- 5.1 fl oz - Vitacost

And this one claims no alcohol at all, but does contain parabens in case you avoid those
Honeybee Gardens Wheat Therapy Hair Spray -- 8 fl oz - Vitacost

I'm not sure if it's completely CG but Ion (from Sally's) has an alcohol-free hairspray. I've been using it on and off for a year now and I really like it. You just have to be careful about using too much cause it can get very sticky.

As far as I know, Deva hasn't released a hair spray. If they have, they haven't mentioned it on their FB page.

Yeah the alcohol in this spray was definitely a drying one (denatured alcohol). Thanks for the recs; I will have to check those out!

Yeah it is not listed on their website either, but it is definitely in Ulta. The same thing happened with the curl cream and the spray gel. I saw those in Ulta way before they were listed on the website. I wonder if they use some Ultas as a test grounds for new products before they do a larger release.

I saw the hairspray when I was at Devachan two weeks ago. I'm generally not a hairspray person, so I didn't really ask about it.

A Deva hairspray... This I have to try. The one thing I missed about CG was the lack of spray to make my hair stay - otherwise it falls flat (fine strands) and into my face (thanks curl pattern). Before CG, I used a hairspray with alcohol and didn't have much of a problem (of course I didn't know any better, either). My hair might care now.

I do agree, if the stylist used a beeswax product, it was probably Set it Free. It's awful stuff to spray on your hair, but great if you spray it in your hand before scrunching the crunchy gel. I have a lot of Deva stuff I'm trying to get through and experimenting with other lines, so I have to get creative

Thanks ladies for all these recommendations! I have never been a heavy hairspray user but I like it for special occasions on humid days when I want to look my best. The hairspray used to give me that little extra so I could be sure my hair would dry and not balloon into a curly fro. I am definitely keeping these recs in mind!

I did go get the Deva Hairspray. It didn't have the hold I was used to with my old hairspray (think concrete), but it did do reasonably well on a windy day. I'm going to keep playing with it to see if I can figure out the best way to use it.

Cool! I am glad someone is giving it a try. Will you keep us posted on how it works for you? I am very interested in knowing whether or not you are able to get it to work and whether or not it causes any dryness.

Default I have it and I love it!

I have used it for a week in all kinds of Michigan conditions, our weather has been all over the place. Yesterday it was a god send. It was 89 degrees, humid, with a dewpoint of 60.
It has a medium flexable hold. Tons of shine, but not the fake silicone kind, a bit of crunch that I can scrunch out without losing the hold.
I am happy that they chose an aresol, otherwise it's just a spray gel. The alcohol does not bother me one bit, it evaporates in the air before it ever hits the hair, so it doesn't deflate the style.
It is a wonderful new option for us curly girls, we have been asking for a hairspray forever, and I thank Deva for listening and answering.
