Mom + my hair...

My mom prefers my hair straight. It's really upsetting. I'm going to a wedding next month, and today she asked me, "Are you going to blow out your hair for the wedding?" I said, "No." Then she said that I would look a whole lot nicer with it straight, so I said, "Thanks, mom," and walked away. I know it shouldn't bug me, but it does. Now that my mom mentioned it, I don't even know how I'm going to wear my hair to the wedding.

You should go with your gut! You didn't want to straighten your hair before she said anything so I don't think you should. If you do she's going to know how easily she can get under your skin. Sorry you have to deal with this...

Moms!
As a protest I would straighten one side of my hair & leave the other side curly.
Sure, people will think you're nutso, but the look on your moms face will be priceless. Be sure to post pics.

Other than that, you can print out this post & show her. Maybe she will understand?

^That would be funny, but I could never do that.

Sorry to hear sbout your Mom nagging you to wear your hair straight!

You can always have your hair styled into a curly updo.

You should do what you want to do with your hair and how you feel comfortable looking. I've found in the past, anytime I've gone to an event like that where I've had to dress up, do hair, and so on and so forth - if I wear a dress someone else likes, do my hair how someone else likes it, do my makeup how someone else likes it - I spend the day/evening self-conscious and uncomfortable. You want to enjoy yourself, feel fabulous, and be comfortable.

Sorry about your mom bugging you though. That's tough.
Sorry to hear about your dilemma with your Mom. Unfortunatley Mom's will be Mom's. If mine had her way my hair would still be cut short looking like little ophan annie and I am far from being a kid, but she still voices her opinion on her dislike of my hair being longer than a pixie cut. I just nod my head and tell her yeah but this is the way I want to wear it for now.
May I see your hair pics? I don't see a password. I have an idea for you for an updo for the wedding and it would help if I saw your hair.

Anyway. What you do is part your hair to the side. Take each front section (close to the face) & twist them back/secure w/ bobby pins. Then I take the back into 2 sections & twist up to about the middle of the head & secure w/ barrettes. The rest kind of falls over the barrettes & you have a very nice, easy updo!

When's the wedding again? I'll try & do mine like that & send a pic.

Oh thanks guys! By the time of the wedding, my hair will be a lot longer, so maybe I could do a fancy curly bun.

When you feel good about how you look it shows.

Your mother is probably from the generation where people ironed their hair on an ironing board. It is hard to change perceptions.

I can tell you from personal experience - be yourself. She may not like it, but if it important to be yourself. Don't waste your entire life trying to please other people.

I like the idea of a curly updo - that may be a nice compromise.
Better everyone think your a fool, than to open your mouth and prove them right.

Perception is not reality.

Thanks guys. It's not that my mother hates me curls, she just prefers them straight.
