Applying conditioner on 2nd day?

I know many of you use your RO as a LI but I'm wondering what works best to apply it on the second day. I also know many of you mix it with water in a spray bottle... So really my question is how do you prefer to add LI on the second day? Do you soak your hair first? Or just get it damp? Am just starting the CG method so am curious on others' methods. Thanks!
I wet thoroughly, but not dripping, with a spray bottle. Add conditioner/LI and then my gel. My hair takes a shorter time to dry on these days so it is not as wet as straight out of the shower, but wet enough to evenly distribute/rake in products. My hair can take a lot of product so it doesn't look greasy or get weighed down even if I do this on 3rd day hair.

On RARE occasions, when my hair looks pretty decent right out of the pineapple, I will mix a little conditioner, gel, and water in my palms and just scrunch it in and fix some of the curls with it. I'm hoping I can do this more as I gain more length.

Thanks for the reply. I think my problem is I'm generally trying to not fuss with the curls the second day when I should be trying to reform them. Thanks for your input! I literally just did my last sulfate wash the other day and am doing my first co wash tonight. I'm going to try to get a good gel cast and scrunch out in the morning but I was so lost this morning trying to look presentable in the rain with unwashed curls lol.
I have also done a conditioner and gel mix in a spray bottle. I don't do that too often because my hair usually needs more fixing than that in the morning, but many can get away with it.

Boil water and add desired amount of conditioner and gel. Stir until dissolved. Allow to cool and add to spray bottle. Use this to 'freshen' curls in the morning. I think there are many recipes on NC for a curl refresher spray if you search for them.

I also did purchase the Curls refresher spray to try. This morning I just wet my hair (more than usual but not soaking), used some spray leave in conditioner and some spray gel on top of that. The spray leave in conditioner I got does have a water soluble cone in it so I'm still experimenting. But I did comb through some V05 conditioner after my shower last night and then combed through gel and with all the conditioner I used between last night and last morning, I definitely feel that my hair feels much better than usual. I also think my last haircut is making my curls more wavy than curly so I'm still experimenting. I still have to pick up a spray bottle for water.... Thanks so much for your help!
My hair is low porous so, if I make my hair damp on the 2nd day, it will 1st absorb water and stay wet for the rest of the day.I wet my hand nice and dripping and I take a quater size of conditioner- Shea Moisture/Suave Naturals-coconut and rake it through every big clumps, if the clump curl is loose, I do slight finger twirl - very gently. This way the conditioner moisture gets locked in the strands and at the same time well defined. I get pretty good clumps from co-wash 1st day so 2nd day hair is a easier process for me. As far as I use just conditioner, and the same conditioner ofcourse until next hair wash- no buildups or greasy hair. I get nice bouncy shiny curls. I can stretch this to even 4th day hair.
diaspora likes this.
3a with some 2a-2c, Medium/Low Porosity
Co-wash:deva no-poo/Vo5 kiwi
Detangle:Suave
Leave-in:Shea Moisture/GVP conditioning Balm/AOHSR

Since long hair- I finger twist in big chunks, which helps till 5th day hair
Gel:LA sports
Plop: Old T-shirt for 15 minutes ,diffuse
I've been doing CG method for almost 2 weeks now so I'm still trying to figure out the best products for my hair. I'm trying to use less gel too. I think my last haircut wasn't the best for my curls and plus I dyed my hair right before starting CG (I have tons of gray and I just turned 30, thanks Dad lol). I'm hoping my curls will get closer to what they were with more time. Thanks for all your help!

I sleep in a pineapple and in a sleep cap I pineapple it and then put a cap over that. It works great for preserving my curls.

Then what I do is shower with it still in the cap and put a shower cap over that. Then I take it down after I'm dressed. I reform my curls very lightly with a nickel sized amount of conditioner in damp palms, shaping my curls lightly with the mixture and fussing with them as carefully as possible. I just reshape and lightly scrunch them, and the condish helps that and cuts out the frizz. I reapply condish if needed, and finish off with SS CEJ (aloe vera gel would work just as well, I'm sure) if my hair seems too frizzy still.

I get very, very nice 2nd day, and sometimes 3rd day, hair this way. I went to a bridal shower sunday with 2nd day hair and got a ton of complements

I refresh only as-needed the 2nd or 3rd day. If I wake up and my curls are looking as well-formed as they were the day before, I will wear a shower cap in the shower, then just fluff out my hair, and I'm done. Usually, I'm not so lucky. Then I make a self-bun and shower, never putting my hair directly under the spray. When I get out, the top is a little damp, perfect as that's the part (crown) that's usually gotten frizzy/undefined. Then if I've done a LI/gel routine, while still in a bun, I smooth LI over my crown, then gel if I think I need it (if it's really frizzy/undefined or humid). I let my hair down from the bun and if any sections look frizzy/undefined, I apply water, then LI, then gel optional, only to those sections, not my whole head.
