Help me out with CG
I wanted to try CG, so over the weekend I clarified with a shampoo, then cowashed with Suave Natural Coconut. I thought I would be able to use the Suave to comb through, but that was a BIG mistake. My hair was a tangled mess. I was so tempted to use my Aussie Moist which works wonderful for detangling, but from what I understand, it is not CG friendly.
Is there as CG conditioner that's a great moisturizer AND has great slip? I have the following ingredients: olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and aloe vera juice. Are any of these okay to us with CG? I don't know if it matters, but my hair is 4a pen spring size tiny coils, fine AND thin with average to high porosity (not sure). I'm graying and may color again. And I need moisture. I'm looking for a simple routine with a few basic products that will give good results. I need things I can buy locally. Thanks for any and all help. |

You might want to look at Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture conditioner. It's more moisturizing than Suave coconut and has pretty good slip.
Oh, and all of your add-ins (shea butter, etc.) are fine to use with CG Sent from my BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk |
Do you have fine or coarse hair (diamter of strand)? If your hair is coarse, or if you have a protein sensitivity, the protein in the coconut suave naturals could have caused the tangly feeling...

I get great slip from Yes to Cucumbers. I think it's also marketed for colored hair, but I just love it because it's thick and moisturizing and has the best slip of any OTC conditioner I've bought. I've been able to find it at Walgreen's, CVS, and at Ulta.
I'm 3b, and my hair is very dry. I color it. Just as an aside, my younger sister is 3a, and not as dry or coarse as I am, and she bought the Tresemme Naturals, and disliked it. She took it back to the store and returned it. She now uses Trader Joe's Nourish. |

+1 to what Corrina says. I love Tresemme Naturals for slip. But, it's actually a light moisturizer. For heavier moisture, you may want to try Biolage Conditioning Balm (Sally's has a cheaper version of this too, GVP I think it's called?) - it provides both good slip and lots of moisture. |

Yes- GVP Conditioning Balm. Very moisturizing. I seem to be one of the few people not really impressed with the slip. Another idea is what I do sometimes- if I'm not getting enough slip to get through some of my tangles I add some Kinky Curly Knot Today to those areas. It's not moisturizing, but the slip is amazing. If it looks like the protein might be an issue Suave has a new conditioner called Everlasting Sunshine, which is protein-free and smells divine. I love the smell but it was too heavy for my hair. I stick to Daily Clarifying or the VO5 Clarifying conditioners (kiwi lime, vanilla mint tea), but I don't know if they have protein or not. Sent from my BlackBerry 9800 using Tapatalk |

I use the tresseme naturals for my moisturizing one, and it has a great slip for my hair!

jumping on the tresemme naturals train!
tresemme naturals nourishing moisture conditioner has great slip for me. and i guess they recently reformulated removing the isopropyl alcohol. so i tried it as a leave-in and my hair was very moisturized.
also, you can try adding olive oil to your conditioners for additional slip. KCKT did nothing for my hair but make it smell good. |

Here's my update: turns out that I had gotten the wrong bottle of Suave. What I had was the SHAMPOO, not the conditioner. That explains why the spritz I made was sudsing like crazy, my hair felt weird and was difficult to detangle and my scalp was so irritated. But I was stubbornly determined to really give CG a chance, so for three days I continued on before finally giving in and going back to Aussie Moist. Lesson learned: when having someone pick up hair product for me, trust but verify
Thanks for all of your suggestions. I will be out this weekend and pick up a few of them. |
