Default People who do everything wrong and still get awesome curls!!

So i know 3 people who do everything "wrong" with their curls and they have the most awesome heads of hair!!! (by wrong i mean anything less than gentle treatment)

First my brother just shampoos his hair (no conditioner), combs it into a parting and lets it air dry (which i guess is good) but he gets the most awesome massive riglets i've ever seen, seriously there're like 3 inches fat and frizz free and he does nothing!!! Hes since had it all cut off though so that has eased my envy!

This girl i used to know at work would bleach the hell out of her curls and blow dry and she had the kind of hair that makes people just stop and gawp.. it was ringlety right the way down to her bum

Then i have another friend that has been straightening for years, her hair used to literally break off half way down her hair. Anyway, her straighteners broke so she just decided to leave it to air dry and oh my gosh... amazing ringlets right from the roots of her hair!!! Grrrrrr!!!!!!

This all gets me wondering if all this gentle treatment is worth it, its a little depressing as well as i'm putting all this effort in and they don't fuss and get amazing curls... Anyway, had to vent!!!!!

My brother washes with dandruff shampoo (Selsan Blue?) and then uses some mousse. He has gorgeous frizz-free TIGHT 3B/C curls that are perfect little spirals.

I had a student at UM who brushed her hair, dry, and she still had perfect ringlets. It's depressing.

I don't know if I have perfect ringlets but I brush my hair dry! It can be done! I've never got this no-brushing thing - you just have to do it right!

It really depends on hairtype. If my curls get separated, then each strand of hair makes its own individual spiral. It's not a pretty site. Imagine a troll doll with a perm and normal-colored hair.

Eilonwy, I've got the same thing going on. Troll-doll-perm. What a perfect analogy. Also, I can't get a brush through my hair without ripping a bunch of it out.

The same thing happens with my hair as Eilonwy's when I brush it.

Troll-doll-perm!

I wish I could treat my hair like crud and have it look good. Alas, I cannot.

Ha! Me brush my hair dry? uhm no. that does not turn out right. Simply because my curl pattern naturally turns into frizz when the curls separate! And if I brush it dry, my hair falls out! It just doesn't look nice.

Yup! That was me! I used to wash with Neutrogena T-Gel, Condition with Pantene, wrap in a turban for a few minutes then *brush* in some Potion no 9 and use some spray gel. That was it and I had gorgeous ringlets! <sigh> I am trying that routine again and so far so good. My hair is still looser than it used to be, but basically frizz-free and it's WAY cheaper. I'm hoping another hair cut in a few weeks will bring some more of the bounce back.

I don't know. I think I do a lot of "wrong" stuff now (after trying many suggestions on the board) and I have better hair. I shampoo with ALS (sometimes lathering twice), use a cheap, 79-cent conditioner, and revive my curls with rubbing alcohol. If I get frizz I scrunch in a silicone cream. I really think the difference between now and the time I joined the board is due to two things: not brushing and only shampooing twice a week.

I have to say that since I've started doing "wrong" things again my hair has never looked better! ~~jax
