Anyone have a drugstore CG routine I can use?
So, my hair is extremely prone to breakage. I dye it blonde, and I think that (combined with my coarse texture) is why. I'm getting married next June so I'd REALLY like for it to be long by then. Right now, if I stretch it, it is to the middle of my back. Otherwise, it basically looks a little longer than shoulder length.
So I'm going to try CG in hopes of helping the breakage problem. Anyone use products ("co wash"?) from Target? Walmart? Something that I can try to copy?

My favorite co-washes are clarifying conditioners. Anything heavier leaves my scalp feeling gunky. Suave has a daily clarifying conditioner and VO5 has 2 different ones- Kiwi Lime and Vanilla Mint Tea.

Most of the suave naturals are good co-washers. There's only a couple that have protein, most of them don't (if your protein sensitive). I don't really use vo5. I think I do have the kiwi clarifying one and I like it.

I don't strictly co-wash, but for CG-friendly conditioners I love Tresemme Naturals moisturizing conditioner. Or, if you need heavier moisture, Biolage conditioning balm. I have been liking the L'Oreal Evercreme sulfate-free cleansing conditioner for washing my hair.
If you have coarse hair, you probably will want to avoid products containing protein. Try some butters (i.e. shea butter) and oils (i.e. coconut oil, olive oil) - just experiment to see what your hair likes!

I use the CG method, and cowash with suave naturals. I also use that for a leave in, since it's not too heavy on my 3a hair. I also use AG recoil, which isn't drugstore. I don't get near enough hold from that, so I use herbal essences totally twisted gel, which works ok, but my hair doesn't like it all that much. It gives me frizz, but it's not that bad if I scrunch with a cotton tshirt, diffuse a bit, then air dry. Im Trying to find a better substitute for the TT gel... HTH!

I second the clarifying CG friendly conditioners, VO5 has 2 I believe. The Suave ones tend to make me itch. I'm more partial to Giovanni TTTT conditioner.
As I Am coconut cowash is pretty good too (and the cheaper one of that brand) but I have to mix it with something. Quite a few people here seem to like Cure Care as a cowash, I didn't but I do like it mixed with the AIA cowash. You can get both of those at Sally's

As some others have already mentioned, V05 Kiwi Lime conditioner is a great CO wash. It's frequently on sale for $.79 a bottle - a steal.
For rinse out conditioners, I like GVP (Generic Value Products) Conditioning Balm from Sally's. I think they have it on sale this month (2 for $11). Another rinse out I'm loving (although it does have 'cones in it) is the Organix Coconut Milk conditioner. LOVE the scent and it leave my hair soft and shiny. (I occasionally use the matching shampoo to clarify, once every 2 weeks or so.)
Good drugstore stylers are LA Looks Sport Gel and L'oreal Out of Bed texturizer.
I'm sure you'll continue to get product recommendations & suggestions ~ everyone here is very helpful.

Isn't LOOB discontinued? I've kept my eyes open for it and I have not seen it anywhere. :/

I've recently seen it in Walmart and CVS (I think - or it was a different drugstore, but I definitely saw it in Walmart).

No but when I got it on sale last year I ended up with 3 tubs with different labels. All the same ingredients but the labels were all different. It was like they couldn't make up their minds on it.

They were all similar, as in black background and same words but kind of different. I have a picture I'd uploaded, lemme see if it's still in attachments.
Yup.

So, for co wash I just "pretend" its shampoo and scrub with it? And then treat the rinse out as normal condish? Also, does anyone use coconut oil or castor oil? If so, how do you use it?

Yes, yes and yes
I've used coconut oil for SOTC, mixed in DTs with a condish and honey, as a pre-poo treatment (apply to dry hair so that the low-poo doesn't strip the hair), a skin moisturizer.... it's very versatile.

I second the yes on the conditioners. Also, like others have said if you think you need a leave-in just start with what you already have in small amounts. I usually use a half dime to a dime size depending on what my hair wants that day.
I use coconut oil added in things like SaraNoH said and as a pre-poo. I'll wet my hair and put the EVCO in the night before I do a clarify poo.

I just started going natural and I don't know how to start a CG routine or even what I need to have. My hair (I think) is low porosity or normal (It feels like the oil sits on my hair but not fully absorbed. I have 4a/4b hair, and I was transitioning so I haven't cut off all of my relaxed ends (most of them broke off because I had knots when I took my braids out and I cut them off). I know nothing about any products or what there purpose is or why I should use them. I know I need a hair cut but any tips, ideas, or recommendations you can give to me to figure out what routine I need...because I don't have one!
