Default Question about protein treatments

When you do a PT, do you also apply conditioner after? If yes, do you use less conditioner because of the PT?

I do apply conditioner afterwards (GVP CB) because I will do IAgirl's PT and leave it on for around an hour. That much protein is great for perking up my waves but not so great for making my hair feel nice and soft. So to answer your next question, compared to normal conditioner, I use about the same amount of GVP CB and leave that on for 5-10 minutes, and my hair feels great.

It depends on what your hair needs. There's a certain PT I can do and I don't have to condition after. There's a lot that PT and then deep condition too.

+1 to what beeduh said; I forgot to add I only really have to condition after a hard hit of protein. If I'm doing a store bought reconstructor or something similar, I almost never have to condition after. Basically I just listen to my hair and based on how dry it feels after the PT, that's how I decide if I need to condition it.

I almost always follow with moisture because there are parts of my hair that still tend to get dry. If I'm using PT products as my RO in the shower (ION Effective Care, CJ Repair Me, CHS Pure Silk Protein) I normally mix with a super moisturizing conditioner just because I find they don't have enough slip on their own (for my tastes).

I at LEAST use a lot of LI. Usually I will do a RO, sometimes a DT. If I'm over-conditioner, I may just use a light LI.

If I use IAgirl's PT then I'll do a DT. But I've been really lazy lately so I've used GVP k-pack and I add some neutral protein filler to it. Leave it on for an hour or so and rinse it out and style as usual (which I normally use a LI).

I don't. My hair feels fine after my PT, so I just treat it as any other rinse out.

ETA. I use store bought, keratin based protein treatments. None are hard core high with the protein since I don't need that. That may be why I get away with using mine like a regular rinse out.

Siri types my posts for me.
