Default Only 19 Days until the end of my 1 Year No Heat Challenge!

August is officially here and it's a great thing! Not only is August my birth month... it's the end of my 1 year No Heat Challenge!!!

I can't believe that I made it! I am officially counting down to the close of my 1 Year No Heat Challenge! August 22nd 2011 was the last time I used heat on my hair. After that day, I decided to challenge myself to not use heat on my hair for one whole year! That meant no blow dryers, no flat irons, no hooded dryers, no hot rollers, no hot combs, no flex rods, etc... I have successfully gone almost one year without using any heat!

In this time of the challenge, I wore my hair in pony-tails, twist outs, wash n' go's, and afro puffs. I feel the one year no heat challenge was beneficial to the health of my hair, the growth of my hair, and it helped me to learn, get to know, and fall in love with my natural God-given curls!

I do plan to straighten my hair after August 22nd, 2012. However, I have to admit I am feeling a bit hesitant because I don't want to incur heat damage and mostly, I don't want to get hooked on having that straight look. I have considered stretching my challenge out until December 22nd which is my 2 year post relaxer mark! If, I do straighten my hair, I am sure that it will be fine but. Yet, because I was relaxed wearing my hair straight for over 26 years; this makes me wonder if I will fall back into the habit of straightening. I have heard many naturals say that they prefer their curls and the volume and don't really like their hair straight after having worn their hair curly for so long. I am hoping that this is how I will feel as I want my hair to have maximum health and growth!

I have always known that I would straighten my hair from time to time just for versatility in my looks and to truly experience the thick, healthy, long hair that I have longed for, for many years. I am very proud of myself for staying disciplined and fulfilling the challenge and not giving in even when I felt tempted! I will keep you all posted and record a video showing how I straighten my hair and a final look after straightening. As well, I am sure that I will do an update video to let you all know if I incurred any heat damage and how I felt about my hair being straight.

Today, is August 3rd and I officially have only 19 more days until my challenge ends!!! :-D

Default 7 days till my 1 Year No Heat Challenge ends!!! - Update

Only 7 more days until my 1 Year No Heat Challenge ends!!!! While I am excited, I am considering stretching until December 22nd when I will be officially 2 years natural. I am hesitant to straighten because the heat where I live is crazy hot! Everyday it has been 104 degrees or higher! This concerns me because of the possibility of sweating my straightened hair right back into a frizzy, curly poof! As well, because I have been wearing it in a ponytail off of my neck lately; I donít want my hair to bother me and I end up sticking into a ponytail (because of it being so hot) defeating the purpose of wearing it in straight style for me. Furthermore, I donít want to risk the temptation of adding more heat to it in order to straighten frizzy areas back out.

So, maybe I will go a little while longer at least until it cools down. But then, I thought if I do that I may just keep going until December. But we shall see! Either way, when I do straighten, I will be sure to make a video to show you how I straighten and the after effects as promised!

As you know, in 7 days my 2 Month Protective Style Challenge will end as well. I suppose I will go back to wearing wash and goís again because I have found that I have a lack-luster attitude for wearing true protective styles. Plus, I just miss having my curls out and about! LOL!

Congrats! I know how difficult it is not to use heat on your hair. Especially if you're used to doing it regularly. I haven't used heat on mine since May 2011 and I plan to stay away from blow-drying and flat-ironing for as long as possible. Ideally never again.
My hair is way too sensitive and heat really messes up my curl pattern irreversibly. So I don't really want to risk it.
Furthermore I try to love my shrinkage and that isn't easy when you know how long your hair could be. so yeah....I don't think I will ever straighten it again.

Thank you!

Wow! That is a long time. I still haven't straightened since because of dance & sweating. I would hate to straighten it & not enjoy it. So, it's gonna be a while before I do. I do want to see it straight but like you said the heat can be so damaging.

I wonder if I could go forever without heat? Hmmmm... ❔😲
