Should I really stop using this shampoo?
I've read a few places here that you absolutely should not use soap on curly hair and a few other murmurs about pH. I currently use and really like the Beautiful Curls Nurturing Shampoo and it contains "Saponified Shea Butter (Butyrospermum parkii) and Virgin Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera)".
Am I really being terrible to my hair using this product? I like that it's fragrance and essential oil free (sensitive scalp) and doesn't leave my hair feeling stripped.
My hair is 3c/4a and I recently cut off a ton of flat ironing damage, so I'd like to take care of it from here on out.

Hi Jessiebanana, If there's one thing I've learned from year's on this site - it's that there's no "one size fits all." If you have something that works for you and you like how it is making your hair look and behave, then it's good for you!
Some of us use soap, some sulfate shampoo, some low poo, some no poo, some acv rinses, etc. It has to do with the condition your hair is in to start with, and whether your hair is porous or not, colored or not, etc. I personally love the Beautiful Curls products, especially the strengthening conditioner.
Good luck and have fun!

I use a sulfate shampoo that I found is gentler than any lo-poo I have ever tried. I say do what works! If you are worried, put conditioner on the length of your hair and only shampoo the roots or try a pre-poo.

msg: Which shampoo are you using? I'm looking for a gentle shampoo. I'm not sure I'm liking co-washing very well

Nope, you should be just fine! I actually used that for a while, and it kinda dried me out, but if it works for you, that's great. It's supposed to be super gentle.

Yeah I think I'm one of those people whose hair likes shampoo, which I guess is rare for a 3c/4a(?). My hair doesn't absorb moisture easily without it and it can get weighed down. I shampoo 2x per week.
I used Pantene as a kid and loved it. The only reason I stopped using it is because my scalp became hyper sensitive in super dry Portland and I wanted to get away from cones.

Corrina777 turned me on to Curly Hair Solutions Treatment Shampoo. It makes my hair feel amazing, is gentle, and has only a few ingredients, all of which I can identify!

+1 to what msg said, it's a great shampoo and my hair doesn't seem to mind one bit that it has sulfates.

There definitely is no one size fits all routine for curlies. My biggest piece of advice is to use what works best for you. If for any reason you don't like what your hair looks like or how it feels then it's time to change up the routine and find what corrects the issue.
I go through waves of using sulfates, but ultimately my hair always rebels and prefers a no-sulfate routine. Again, it's what works best for me.

I find it super gentle and detangling if I use a pea size amount for my whole head! It makes my hair feel soft and springy.

Awesome! I'll have to give it a try . Thanks. My hair just seems to like shampooing better than co-washing. Co-washing sometimes leaves my hair limp and flat looking.
