I like Biotera Gel, combined with a mousse. I second LALSG, and also feel it is more "forgiving" than BRHG. But then I am a mousse + gel gal, and not a lot of gel for that matter.

I love AO and Vitacost, but the Mandarin Magic had 0 hold for me, though it made my hair feel very smooth, light, and not producty at all. Usually a light-medium hold is enough for me, like KCCC and Alba Botanica Soft Hold Style Cream, but for me the MM has way less than those and less than AnGel. Does it actually give you hold? I'm thinking of trying it as a LI with a gel on top, when I find a new gel.
I've used both the B5 gel** and Mandarin Magic. While the B5 gel left my hair crunchy, I love how Mandarin Magic clumps my curls definition and shine without the crunch. I do put enough in my hair so that my wet hair feels slick – maybe it's matter of how much product? It dries with no flakes. Such a fan.

I used ArcAnGel for awhile like 5 years ago and I found it left my hair strawlike. Don't remember what I thought of regular AnGel...

**My sister who has 3b/3c curls, but whose hair is longer and less bushy than mine swears by B5 gel! I find it's more prone to flaking though...

This is what is available (in my area) currently. It is the new look tube but ingredients ARE NOT what is listed when you do a google search. This is not the first time I search ingredient list for a product and websites lists something different from what is actually on tube. The information that is out there on HESMU is not coming from herbal essences.

So, check the actual tube before you buy it. I like this gel and don't think it should be discounted.

Interesting, as that is the new styled bottle that HE is using, but without the bad ingredients everyone talks about. Looks like HESMU is still in the running then! Tomorrow I plan on buying new products since my KCCC is getting low.

I was a little confused as well about the formula change....my local store has the same one you have pictures of, so it's still CG.

Thank you Asian and Cuban, Apparently mine new package HESMU is still CG (old formula) but I will look out for the new (nasty) non CG version and steer clear of it..... Thanks girls.

The HESMU reformulation thread was started by someone who I consider an extremely reliable source who did state that she was seeing the ingredient change on actual tubes of product.

Whether it's new, old or regional it definitely reminds me why I read the ingredient label every single time I buy a product, even if it's one that I've bought a dozen times before.

So I called Clairol/Herbal Essences and they told me they have not reformulated the gel. The hold is harder (went from level 3 to 4) but she assured me they have not added cones or drying alcohol. The ingredient list is this :

There is a Set Me Up spray gel with different ingredients and perhaps the confusion came there? She reassured me that the new look tube (silver with teal band) is not nor will it be reformulated. She said it is the same gel from before just harder hold.

At any rate, check this and all tubes before buying!!!!

Since we're on things that may or may not have been reformulated, I noticed the Curl Mart on this site lists AOHR conditioner as glycerin free. I grabbed a bottle of it at my local Whole Foods last week and it very clearly says "glycerin" on the bottle. I don't know if it was reformulated without and I have an old formula or if mine is new or if curl mart is just confused... but I thought I'd just throw it out there for anyone who is interested in AOHR and is anti-glycerin.

Yeah I'm finishing off a bottle of AOHSR and it's definitely got glycerin in it, but it's fine as a RO. Just don't leave any in if you can't tolerate glycerin
