Default New here - ? About protein

Hi all - I've had curly hair all my life but I just recently decided to try the CG method and am loving the results so far.

I'm currently using the DevaCurl loo poo and one condition and using that as my leave in as well. I'm trying all different gels (BRHG, AnGel, Ouidad Climate Control) to see which I like best.

My question right now is how do I determine if my hair likes or dislikes protein? If the only way to do that is by trying products that contain protein, which would you recommend?I would prefer only buying one product to see if my hair likes it or not. Also, how long should I use it to really tell if my hair is protein sensitive? Thanks everyone!

The best thing to do is to determine your hair properties. Here's a link to help you with that Live Curly Live Free - Curly Hair Basics Generally, fine and/or porous hair likes protein. Once you know your properties, you can look for folks with hair like yours and see what they use (in signature.) It's the best place to start.

Around here, Deva is a love/hate line. Most of us started with it, thought we liked it and moved on to other things. Many who liked it to start, stopped using it when they changed the ingredients a few years ago. My hair prefers the more natural products from the online, boutique type companies.

Many of us rotate products. My hair always satiated on products, even back in the shampoo/conditioner only days. I wet, use a rinse out every day. Seldom let myself use any one product more then once every five days. I do at least one PT a week and use a lot of products with protein.

Thank you for that website. I tried figuring out if my hair's porosity but couldn't tell which it was. Do you know if the hair analysis is worth it?

I caved and did the hair analysis and I'm really glad that I did- I ended up having completely different hair than I thought I did. It explained why my hair wasn't doing what I was expecting it to do.

Can you tell me what kind of things they told you? Did they tell you if your hair likes/dislikes things like protein etc?
