Anyone else *gasp* skip conditioner?
My hair has been feeling over moisturized lately but I wasn't sure what to do about it. I have cut out the LI, but still had fluffy, weighed down hair. Then I saw a post from a user who says she NEVER uses a conditioner, just a DT sometimes. (sorry I can't give her credit because I don't remember her username!) so I just co washed yesterday and skipped the RO and wow! My hair was bouncier and more defined. I was too afraid before to try this because all I hear is MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE! I'll admit when I first started CG I was doing DTs once a week then cut down to once every two weeks then once a month...now I can't remember the last time I did one. Just wondering if anyone else does this at least every now and again. To be honest my hair is probably in need of a PT, but I have been very lazy lately...so what do you think ladies and gentlemen? Totally nuts or totally normal?

I have. Sometime if I have a really good cowash and I'm very moisturized and can get thru tangles easily without it...I'll skip.

Back on Cones,so now my routine is,wash with Deva No-Poo every other day or so. Occasionally use 365 sulfate free, maybe use low sulfate shampoo mixed with conditioner once every two weeks are longer. I condition with Aussie Moist or HEHH. I style with a little GF TN,and finish up with tons of GN Pure Clean Smoothing Cream. No frizz...slippy, happy hair.

It was me.
I don't use conditioner.
I DT or oil treat maybe once a week, or every 2 weeks.

I condition wash my hair a few times a week, rinse, add gel, done. The other days I just wet it and add gel.
I don't use a separate conditioner to condition and I don't use a leave-in.

I don't skip conditioner altogether but I use light conditioners or cleansing conditioner only. I never do DTs. I low-poo almost every day. Otherwise my fine wavy hair gets too overconditioned. The other thing I've found is that I have to incorporate protein in my regimen or I get OCed. I do weekly gelatin PTs and use some products that contain protein.
I totally agree about hearing moisture, moisture, moisture on these boards and other websites describing the CG method. It took me months of frustration to realize my hair needed protein to balance out that moisture, and that too much moisture is not a good thing for my fine hair!

I stopped using conditioner when I cropped my hair short. I used it intermittently when I bleached it, but after I gained enough moisture back, it wasnt doing me any favors. Eventually my hair balanced itself out.
I'm not strict with it. Occassionally I'll feel it needs to be conditioned. Or skip a shampoo

Mine has been the same since my pixie cut. Not loving conditioner, sucking up protein. I wish I'd seen this thread two years ago, it would have saved me a lot of time, frustration and frizz, lol.

My hair really doesn't like conditioner much. I kept using it because the bottom half of my hair was so damaged from coloring that I needed it to detangle, and also because my scalp needs some. Two months ago I switched to henna, chopped the damage off, and drastically reduced using conditioner. I use it when I shampoo (which is no more than 2x a week), but what I do is put it on my scalp/root area, and then rinse it down the length. I never use a LI. I wet-style most days, but I just water rinse. No conditioner. My hair responds very, very well to this regimen.
It took me awhile (and too much money) to figure out that no, it's not that I haven't found the "holy grail" conditioner. It's that my hair doesn't NEED much conditioner. I can use just about any conditioner as long as it's not more than twice a week.

I probably could skip conditioner (my hair loves protein WAYYY more than moisture), but I would have to use a leave in so I'm not sure if that would count as skipping conditioner...what I do instead is almost always use a low poo/gentle sulfate shampoo/moisturizing cleanser, then follow it with Ion Effective Care which is super protein heavy, and once I wash it out, I use a tiny bit of leave in and rinse it through. So I probably could skip conditioner, but I don't think I'd want to.

When I got my hair straightened the other day I I used the suave naturals and felt like I didn't need it but used it anyway.

If I'm cowashing, I'll often skip using a richer conditioner afterwards unless I feel like I need some protein.
When I low poo, as long as my hair feels smooth and detangled enough, I'll skip conditioner and take advantage of having a clean slate on which to apply a styler. Some of my best hair days occur after low pooing.
Skipping conditioner might seem counter-intuitive for hair as curly as mine, and I color it, but I never use heat of any kind. It just seems to work for me to not overdo it, especially since I like moisturizing stylers.

I color my hair every four weeks and based on the More Moisture theory, I used a rinse out and a heavy leave in along with my stylers. I was keeping the rinse out in my hair while I finished my shower (10 minutes or so). My 2b/c waves got limper and limper and just looked terrible. I cut out the leave in and rinse the RO out immediately after detangling instead of letting it sit, and apply my stylers to soaking wet hair. Much better curls now!

For those of us with fine hair, it's really all about a balance of moisture and protein. I have to be very careful about my conditioners as so many will leave me weighed down and lifeless. I can't go completely without it (or can I?? I've never considered trying) but I'm careful to use a light conditioner. Love Tresemme Naturals. I cannot go without regular doses of protein. I get stringy and dull without it.

Sorry iroc! I knew I had seen your post but couldn't remember where. Also, reading that inspired me to skip the conditioner so a big thanks! I was a little unclear about what I meant by skipping conditioner and what my routine is. I typically co wash every day, sometimes every other day. I am pretty lazy when it comes to creating updos so on days I don't wash I typically wear a slouch hat LOL. My hair is getting long so co washing and conditioning every day can be a real chore. Very interesting posts and lots of wisdom!

Ha. I wish I could skip conditioning! I use it to Detangle, another as an LI , DT and in my routine. My hair depends on conditioner.

It would be a time saver. But since I use shampoo, conditioner for my hair is a must.

I agree! Though my hair is almost always needing protein it seems. Also, I hope I didn't sound insensitive to those whose hair needs lots of moisture. I know everyone's hair is so different, so it's nice to hear so many perspectives!
