Default Gel Application

Quick question as I am getting ready for my day...

When you apply gel, do you get better results if you scrunch in, or rake it in? I keep going back and forth on this lately!

I do both. First I rake it through dripping wet hair, then I scrunch to get the curl back in. I finbd I don't get good enough distribution if I only scrunch.

Scrunching has always worked better for me. My biggest issue with gel, though is that it seems to take SO much longer for my hair to dry than with other stylers.

I comb it through with a wide-toothed comb, then scrunch the curl back in. I thought combing would pull out the curl, but it actually improves them. Maybe by distributing the gel better?

I smooth it on in sections, then scrunch it. My curls are pretty skinny to begin with and raking anything through them makes them downright stringy.

I do both. I rake it in to make sure it's evenly distributed, then scrunch my hair. If I just scrunch, I end up with globs of hair that have way more gel than the rest of my hair.

Only scrunching for me, raking makes mine too stringy.

I normally smooth mine in and scrunch it in random places where it's less curly (my 3B parts).

I do what Suzen does with one added step after I scrunch back in the curl to help with my underside. When I stand back up, I run my fingers up from the bottom just on the underside/back of my hair on each side. Kinda like an "underneath rake". It helps elongate my back waves/curls a bit but doesn't pull them out completely as my hair begins curling on it's own pretty quickly.

After previewing that, it almost sounds like I'm defeating the whole method . My hair tends to clump in the back/underside, so doing that last step helps prevent that somewhat but doesn't lessen my curls.

Rake n' shake. Then wrap random curls around my finger. Diffuse.
