Default Second day hair tips

Hi y'all I'm looking for tips to refresh my curls on day 2. I bought Deva curls set it free but that just makes my hair feel dirty and so does Mr. Right.

I have CCCCL and have read that it's great for 2nd day hair but I don't know how to use it. Should i just emulsify it in my palms and scrunch it in or would it be better to mix with water and create a kind of spray? If spray, what proportion water to product? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I know a lot of curlies love spray refreshers, so hopefully someone who does will chime in. That does not work well for me (seems to make my hair frizzier). I like to use either a LI or a light cream and emulsify it in my hands. I'll smooth a little over my crown, then grab my hair like I'm pulling it up into a ponytail and smooth my hands down to the ends (I do all the smoothing very lightly so I'm not messing up my curls or pulling on them). Then I scrunch in the rest.
Auntie Bubbs likes this.

Glad it worked for you! If you find that the cream or LI your using is too heavy for 2nd day hair, you could also try watering it down a bit.

I don't use hairspray, but here's a link to a thread about CG hairspray; it's a little old, so you'll want to make sure the ingredients/formulas haven't changed, but maybe you'll find some good suggestions there:

Is there a CG hairspray?

Devacurl just released a hair spray, and Aubrey organics (at whole foods and other health stores) has one as well.

I just bought CCCCL. I have super fine hair and it's been great for me for day two. I usually just use it on my hands. I tried putting it in a spray bottle with 50% water but it won't squirt right. I think it has something to do with the oils because I did the same with CJ SL and the spray was fine, neither CCCL or CIAB would work though. Weird.

This works for me if I want curls. (I'm working on waves.) I have given up on epsom salt. I now make a spray with 2 tablespoons glycerin, 1/4 cup alcohol, and 1 1/2 cups water. It works best if I used strong gel the day before. Just water will cause frizz. The alcohol des't seem to dry it. I have normal porosity, BTW, and an even mix of fine, med, and coarse hairs.

+1

That's pretty much what I do too. I use my conditioner with a touch of water, emulsify in my palms, and smooth it over my canopy lightly so as not to aggravate frizz, and then go through and lightly reshape/redefine my curls all over my head with the cream I've just mixed. I don't use a LI per se, I use a light conditioner as a LI, so I'm using that. I do this for 2nd and 3rd day hair

What I've noticed is that you can get good 2nd day (and 3rd day) hair if you start with really good 1st day hair. I sleep with a cap over my curls (and I put them in a pineapple before putting the cap on) to protect them, which helps me get 2nd and 3rd day curls.
My 3rd day curls will be frizzier and have more volume, but the LI I used to style them with helps cut down on that. Unfortunately they will feel a bit more dry than 1st day curls, but I think they'd feel worse if I used a gel or anything else to style them with.

I used to use a spray to style 2nd day curls but I didn't like how much frizz I would get. I mixed up water and gel and didn't like it, I mixed up a conditioner and water spray and that didn't work either. I even tried a water/gel/conditioner combo. Too much water = frizz for me. This method with the conditioner a just a splash of water works best for me. I have 3b, coarse medium texture curls.

I use my own mix of a spray refreshioner, apply to my hands, section off my hair, then smooth over each individual curl. It usually takes around 15 minutes if my hairs not being super stubborn and it works well enough. Although I've been experimenting with combing out my curls 2nd day, dampening them, then wrapping it up in long foam rollers. It kind of makes it look like I curled my hair with an iron.
