How do you fine-haired curlies "seal"...
...your hair against humidity? I would love some feedback on this subject! Especially if you are fine, highlighted, porous and easily weighed down. I guess I need to find a hair twin, eh?
Does anyone have a certain oil, butter or pomade that is keeping the frizzies at bay in the higher dews (60+) without being heavy?
Thanks in advance!

My hair is not fond of most oils, and I live in a dry climate (fine, porous, easily weighted down). I personally use Shea butter mixed in my fsg. I know some others seal with 2-3 drops of grapeseed oil or jojoba oil.

I'm fine/highlighted/low porosity. My hair doesn't care for straight oils or butters. I frequently use minute amounts of the Marie Dean stylers as my first or second product (if I'm using a leave in AND curl enhancer) to seal. Our dewpoint dropped to 70. No frizz for me today!

MyName, thanks for your reply. I have both of those oils but the not shea butter. I'm so afraid of being too heavy-handed with oils. I better start with just a drop. I hear that people put the oil on top of their leave-in and under their ge does that sound right?

Wow, your dew point "dropped" to 70? Ours is just climbing up into the 60's and I still don't know what I'm doing! I just realized that this is going to be my 3rd year of being CG and I still don't know what I'm doing, lol!
Just curious, how is your hair not highly porous when it's highlighted? Is that what enough protein treatments can do? Thanks in advance

Yes, that sounds right. Actually, I know of some girls here that have been sealing after styling product with good results as well. Don't be afraid to experiment ! It's fun!
And Srsly? Dew dropped to 60's? Ours is up to 62, and the other day it went from low 50's to like 20's in a few hours.

The dew point had been a few points higher during the day. I posted around dinner time--so, it dropped a little bet, LOL!
Depending on how your highlights are done, they are a negligible amount of hair. I think mine couldn't be more then 5%, if that. (heavy around the face and canopy, very little elsewhere) My hair grows quickly and I get a lot cut off every 6 weeks. I was a natural blonde until my late 20s/early 30s, so it's possible that it doesn't take a lot to lighten my hair.

I seal with oil on very wet hair (not dripping) after applying LI.
I sometimes use jojoba or SM Elixir, but only thing I've found that REALLY works to keep the moisture I want in and the humidity out (not 100% of course, but far better than anything else) is a few drops of mineral oil. I usually mix it with a few drops on another oil. But it's been a MIRACLE for my hair. I did t try it forever bc people on here always had bad things to say about it. But after reading several articles on NC.com and elsewhere, I decided I would try it. Now it's an HG!!

Thanks for sharing, Jas76! I'm going to try and find those articles on mineral oil when I get done work.
I still can't believe I haven't found the perfect CG routine yet, lol! There are just so many different products, amounts, combos, techniques and dew points

That was the most recent one out, and the one that convinced me to try it!
If you just search "mineral oil" on NC.com you'll find several!

I have been experimenting with coconut oil and just purchased grapeseed oil....will let u know how it works out. I have tried EVOO and it is too heavy for me 3b/a hair. Also tried a argan oil blend and did not like it. Coconut oil so far has been the best on my hair.....moisturizing, excellent sheen and light. I am expecting the grapeseed oil to be even lighter, if so coconut and grapeseed will be my staple oils.
As far as humidity/dew points 60+(quite frequent here in FL) sealing w/ coconut has helped to some degree. I don't know that all frizz can be eliminated :-) .

Thank you for that! Just curious, do you use the "laxative" mineral oil or baby oil? Have you tried both and does one work better than the other? TIA for all of your help

You're very welcome! I hope it helps you!
I've only used baby oil - but only the type that is just mineral oil (and fragrance), not one with aloe or vit E or anything like that.

You guys could also try broccoli seed oil. It's extremely light so it doesnt weigh your hair down and you don't get the greasy feeling you might get using other oils.
I used it on my hair (it's not fine!) and found it slightly too lightweight. Might be worth a shot for people with fine hair, though!

Yeah, I'm probably being unrealistic with completely eliminating frizz. I just work with people who have long straight shiny hair and my frizzy hair makes me insecure, lol.
I'm glad that coconut oil has been working for you I hope the grapeseed oil is even better for you! I need to start experimenting already!
Question for all: If you don't use a leave-in and use curl keeper as the first "layer", can you seal with oil on top of curl keeper or just over a leave-in. I'm still trying to figure out a routine. I'm a PJ in need of Rehab!

You can seal after a curl cream, but I'd probably seal before. Of course I would never not use LI, though! Haha! Unless I found a curl cream that was very enhancing and very moisturizing!

Well, I checked my baby oil and of course, it had all of the add-ins that you said to stay clear of. My next trip off the island will include a stop to get some mineral oil
I sealed with grapeseed oil for the first time tonight, over top of kcnt and under flaxseed gel and SS FHG. I can't wait to see if it makes a difference in the level of frizz tomorrow.
I am starting a hair journal tonight. Better late than never!

Lol! Of course it did! It's that always how it works out?
I honestly can't say from experience if those additives cause any problems, but that's what the article had said!
Good luck! Hope it works out for you!!
How did you like the grape seed oil?

I'm fine, easily weighed down, and very porous and no oils work, not even jojoba, made my hair greasy feeling and kind of rough and sticky idk but grape seed oil seemed to do it for me.
